Yuko Takahashi and the Dance Company

It was all in all a good experience witnessing Yuko Takahashi and the dance company performing in front of our eyes, literally. Dancing is a visual art form that is often combined with music and rhythms for an intense audio-visual experience. On what I have observed, they usually perform interpretative dance. Living in a modern generation, I have grown to love modern dances with their crumping and fast harmonic movements together with different stunts. Interpretive dancing can be used as a way to create a work of art, but it is more commonly associated with stimulating spirituality and worship. I have never observed such emotion poured out in every interpretative dance. Though I admit there are times where I could not understand what lyrics and what song was playing but nevertheless they never failed to individually transmit the message of each song. You could really feel how passionate they are in their chosen field. Every face would depict the emotion they were performing. There was no need of lyrics because it was written all over their faces. They moved with ease and flexibility. Movement is indeed a powerful tool for communicating because it can be very interesting to watch and stimulating for the performers as well as for the viewers. What I love the best in their performance was their tribute to the devastation that happened in their country last March 11, 2011. The huge earthquake and tsunami was not a misfortune but they looked at the brighter side of life and used it as an inspiration. They used it as their motivation to perform well. I like how they never gave up easily. Life is not about stumbling down but on how you pick up the pieces and stand up again. They even parted their skills to fortunate Sillimanians who were under their workshop. They even presented and showed that if Yuko Takahashi and their dance company could do it, they could also do it.
