“Bridge Builders seeks to develop among high school students a group of future leaders who can lay aside individual and cultural differences and work for the benefit of all.” This is the mission statement for Bridge Builders which is a program that I participated in my junior year of high school, and now actively involved with my senior year. The program, without a doubt, lives up to its mission statement. During the program we participated in leadership, personal, and team building activities. The program’s methods taught me how to be a great leader in any situation, whether I was leading myself or a group. I also made life-long friendships, and I am still meeting new people at our meetings that we have during the school year.
Normally teenagers hang out with their friends and do not spend all their time with one girl/boy. In the beginning Lockie does not have much respect for his parents, his brother and little sister and, they do not really seem to care what he thinks. Lockie realises in the end that his family is actually really caring and when Lockie started to appreciate them it made the relationship's with his Mum, Dad and younger brother stronger. “Me Mum once said that us kids made her and the old man real happy. I always remember that.” (Page 54).
We would always have nice clothes to wear to church every Sunday. We moved very often during my early childhood in order for my father to find work and support his family. The first time I remember moving was when I was in the first grade, we moved during the Christmas break. I was very happy in the school I was currently attending. Once I began attending the new school things were difficult because my new teacher was completely different from my previous teacher.

She has a fun memory despite the struggle of being poor. Next, she talks about her boyfriend and how he is being sent off to fight in the war over in Africa. She looks forward to the romantic side of it but is still saddened that he is leaving. Finally, she talks about her experience over at a camp where they learned to do many things that the government required them to do such as grow tobacco or cut sugar cane in order to produce around 10 billion tons of sugar. She explains the struggle of only having little food there because it was the ones her parents brought her during the weekends but she had to save it in order for it to last.
While getting alerts that the hurricane was coming, Zeitoun made the decision that he would stay in New Orleans instead of leaving the state. He wanted to stay behind and try to save his businesses, properties, and the people who couldn’t leave. Kathy and the girls went to stay with Kathy’s family in Arizona. Zeitoun didn’t think the storm would be that bad in order for him to leave. They begged Zeitoun to go but he was much to proud, so they promised to call each other every day until the storm was over.
They day of quiet noise had ended and after giving each child a high-five on their way out the door all that was left was me and the prolonged silence on the court. Sometimes being outside of your comfort zone is the best way to make others feel comfortable. I’m proud to say that this past summer was the best I’ve had because silence is truly
He went to church every Sunday and even though he heard the words the preacher was saying he did not learn a thing, which made his parents worry and they prayed for him often that he would soon find his way to the Lord. He was also, like many of us, he hated going to school. It wasn't until he got the hang of it that he started to enjoy going. He started to notice that math was starting to make sense and that geography was not just colors on a map but real places. His parents were starting to notice how smart he was and they thought that maybe he was to smart for the 6th grade so they moved him to 7th grade which turned out to be a bad idea because that is when he started to hate school and it was soon after that, that at the age of 14 he would drop out of school.
In all I’ve spent about 10 hours riding in his truck, just listening to him talk about his life and what he thinks about my relationship with his daughter. This is a conversation I surely would not have had if I were not riding in his truck. If there was any way to escape, I would have. In the end, though, it is worth the long boring conversations with my girlfriend’s father if it helped get her into a rehabilitation facility and bring her one step closer to becoming a functioning member of society while building a friendship with her
The Salvation Army has been aiding youth for over 125 years. Each community service center has a spiritual character developing program for young people; for instance, “Sunday school, troop programs, music classes, athletics, arts and crafts, camping, and familial services” (The Salvation Army, 2013) expected to aid care givers to stop the trend of crime and homelessness so children may have a bright future. Within the recent years, The Salvation Army has been helping more people than ever. On or about 30 million individuals have obtained aid from The Salvation Army in the year 2011 alone, but the weight of the mission The Salvation Army faces in societies in the United States continues to be great. In spreading the word of the work of the Salvation Army, one can possibly link the Salvation Army website on a blog, website, or Facebook Page.
