Amar Alwani 9th English Mr. Yurchak November 15, 2012 Government “If men were angels, no government would be necessary,” James Madison, the fourth president of the U.S, once said. We are greedy by nature, and without someone to keep us in check, we would constantly fight with each other for everything. A world without a government is a world that turmoil calls home. Lawlessness would erupt and riots would destroy countries. The exact definition of a government is the form or system of rule by which a state, community, etc., is governed. In the absence of authority, people have no limitations to the rights they possess, and to make it worse, no matter what they did they’d get away with it. Would you feel safe in a place like that? If one views the government as inefficient, it is simply because they lack the understanding of the role it serves to protect us, how it impacts us citizens, and what is good and bad about it. A government helps to provide safety for the residents of a country. Governments were created with the idea of peace, but over time their purpose was forgotten, and many just point out their governments faults and weaknesses. We all desire a fair and active government, one that won’t let its citizens down. The government acts like our parent, who guides us through our lives on a daily basis. It was made to take away the worry, to protect us, and to do that, laws are made. Laws provide us with rights to protect us. Our government defends our nation against potential threats. They are obligated to do all this in order to keep peace even if we don’t agree with all the laws. In the United States, Hurricane Sandy demolished New York as well as other northern states. Many people were injured, killed, and left homeless. The government provided aid to help those citizens in such a catastrophic event such as this hurricane. This is one example of an
