World Arguments for and against Birth Control The controversy revolving around birth control has been an ongoing and long debated topic, bringing strong convictions from both sides of the debate. When starting the research for this paper, I found many statistics to support both sides and many opinions based on religious beliefs, moral views and personal convictions. One of the world arguments, in favor of birth control, is that men and women alike should have the ultimate decision of when they are ready and prepared to have children. Even though, by law of nature, it’s the woman that carries and delivers a child; she’s didn’t create the life on her own. It’s reality that a man and woman create a human life together and they both should have birth control options available to them at all times to make wise, informed decisions about bringing a life into the world. A second world view in favor of birth control is that it’s a win for taxpayers. When unplanned pregnancy occurs, it is cited that in the United States alone, the cost to taxpayers is 12 billion dollars a year. A large portion of that money goes toward providing health care for low income persons care through and after the birth of a child, through Medicaid. In 2008, 41% of births were covered by Medicaid, with an average cost of $12.631 per child/woman. With Planned Parenthood and birth control readily available, the number of unplanned pregnancies would decline saving taxpayer’s money and supporting the rising problem of children/women on welfare. A third world argument in favor of birth control is a slashing number of abortions performed for unwanted pregnancies. As of 2006, nearly half of all pregnancies in the United States alone were unplanned pregnancies. Of those unplanned pregnancies, 43% were terminated through abortion.
