WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM REPORT FOR ABC CHEMICALS. Report by Fergus Seppanen, ABC Chemicals wish to implement a new Workplace Health and Safety Management System and have asked Captain Cook College to conduct an Audit and issue them a report based on our findings. ABC Chemicals must comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 as defined in the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011. Particularly Chapter 7, part 7.1 – Hazardous Chemicals, pages 297 – 340. Certain codes of practice will also govern ABC Chemicals. They are the Labelling of Workplace Hazardous Chemicals Code of Practice 2011. Preparation of Safety Data Sheets Code of Practice 2011 and The Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road or Rail (revised October 2011). Further information on compliance can be found via the Safe Work Australia website – www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au and the QLD Government Work Health and Safety website – www.deir.qld.gov.au. SECTION B: - HAZARDS After close inspection of ABC Chemicals site, plant and operations as well as speaking to staff we have identified quite a number of hazards within the organisation. Some hazards are critical, having high risk factors and must be addressed ASAP while some hazards are of a non-critical nature. They can pose a risk however the risk is minimal in nature. We have recommended various methods on how to identify these hazards and risks in the future and how to resolve them. CRITICAL HAZARDS: * No worker has been trained in safe handling of chemicals * No worker has been trained in how to cope with emergencies * No emergency plan in the
