Introductory Awareness of Models of Disability Describe the medical model of disability: This model view disability as a ‘problem’ to only the individual with the disability and not to any other. Describe the social model of disability: This views society as the disabling factor, by designing things to suit the needs of the majority, rather than the needs of disabled people. Outline how each of the models has developed and evolved over time Medical model: This model has developed a lot over time. Rather than care being institutional orientated, many people are now in community based care settings, allowing them to feel included as a valuable part of society. Society has changed to view the strengths of individuals with disabilities, rather
If we go and show bad attitude and show that we are negative to certain people around them. Then we could make children to be the same way, which is not a good example to them as young children don’t know the differences between right and wrong. As a teaching assistant it is my duty and responsibility to respect the children with there needs and accept them for who they are. The way I can do this is if I think about my own beliefs and opinions so I can learn not to judge others on the basis of their race, gender or religion etc. In my line
Unit 012 Outcome 1 Understand Partnership Working Within The Context Of Services For Children And Young People 1. Explain why working in partnership with others is important for children and young people: The communication and partnership with others includes: • Parents, carers , guardians • Professionals • Multi-disciplinary teams • Colleagues The communication between the main care providers, professionals, multi-disciplinary teams and colleagues is particularly important. The reason being for this are if there’s no communication partnership with these parties, then the relevant information that is required will not be passed forward. If the information is about the children and young people’s learning development, or a behaviour complication. For example, if the children and young people are not developing within the age guidance, or the children and young people are having behaviour difficulties then this will result in the required parties not knowing the relevant details and information.
Recognising and Responding to concerns about Child Development Any concerns that staff may have about the development of children and young people should be reported. Recognising concern, allows staff /carers to intervene and help the child, and inform the parents of the concerns and possible solution for the problem. The quicker the issue is dealt with the better this is for the child’s development. Whereas if a problem is left unresolved or delayed, the more damaging this could be for the child’s development. Difficulty with reading and writing If a child is having problems with reading and writing this could cause concern.
If children are resilient they will be able to cope better with problems, they will have better health and they will be happier and more fulfilled. They will also be less likely to develop emotional problems like depression or anxiety. But resilience is not just something you have or don’t have. The good news is that we can help all children to become more resilient. We can’t protect children from all the things that may cause them distress throughout their lives.
In the 1960s, people with disabilities were mostly shut away meaning that there was no real need to make buildings wheelchair accessible. The Medical model is misleading as it suggests that people with disabilities are patients who are ill and dependent on the medical profession. The Social Model of Disability: The social model of disability sees the issue of "disability" as a socially created problem and a matter of the full integration of individuals into society. In this model, disability is not an attribute of an individual, but rather a complex collection
This has continued to prevent people with disabilities from leading full and active lives. “Historically, social care has been good at providing services that minimised risk. However, personalisation means that in the future Social Care (and Health Services) have to work towards providing choices rather than services.” It is only recently with the continued push toward personalisation have the potential benefits of risk-taking been considered from the individual’s point of view – how it can be life-enhancing, beneficial and appropriate to the individual’s aspirations. A new approach to ‘risk-enablement’ is now
A strength of this will be that the individual will be able to communicate with other people and get their needs across and get help if they are needing it. However a weakness is that the individual may be misinterpreted or if the staff is still learning the individual may not get the help that they need. Having a patient's advocate will allow for the individual to have choices made for them in their best interests of the individual is unable to make the choices themselves for whatever reason. A strength of having a patient advocate would be that the know the individual and know what they would be happy with regarding their personal life and their health decisions. However a patient advocate may do
The Early Years Framework also believes that when professionals work together the results are better. This is because a professional such as speech therapist can contribute a qualified understanding of a child’s difficulties, which can then be passed onto the child’s key worker to highlight what are the child’s needs and what can be done to concentrate on improving on difficulties. In the mean time, if all the people involved in a child’s life are aware of what that child needs, then development can move faster as the focus is directed on what needs to be done. However if there was not the sense of team work, then one individual may struggle to make the same contributions to the child’s needs and lack the time needed to support he child. The importance of multi-agency working is that it provides a tailored service of exactly the right professionals giving an educated support.
People with dementia can inactive during the day because they are scared of falling, have lack of motivation or coordination problems. As such exercise should be a part of the care plan and encouraging them to do so is important. Personal care, you should always think of privacy and dignity when it comes to personal care you should also be encouraging during tis time and ensure that it is a s pleasant as possible as if done wrong you could cause the person to become anxious and frightened of these times you should be aware of what the person like doing and how and how much they can do themselves.
