I’m a Saudi Arabian citizen; it is my country, and I love it. I agree there may be some disadvantages of living in Saudi Arabia, but that doesn’t make me love it any less. I have to say, I have always been shocked by Saudi Arabian driving. You have drivers going over 140 km per hour everywhere, others with great skill changing lanes without even checking their mirrors, casually drifting along the crowded streets, escaping police chases, and without a doubt, chasing cars which carry girls no matter who the girl is with. Now that’s what I call skillful driving!
What shocks me even more is that women have been fighting to be allowed to drive cars in Saudi Arabia. I agree that allowing women to drive will be a huge step for Saudi Arabia on the road to civilization. But let us for a second think about, if it is decided that women could drive, what on earth would happen on the streets?! Think about it… even without girls driving we have the guys going crazy on the streets if it appears to them that there is a girl in some car. It is not surprising if we witness even more of that problem after women start driving. The king recently commented saying that it is our tradition that women shouldn’t drive, and we are not willing to abandon our values and allow women to drive. He probably is aware that boys will go bananas once women start driving.
I see Saudi Arabia’s society developing on a large scale and becoming a more open-minded community. However, until now, this improvement hasn’t reached the level where it can allow women to drive.
I don’t know how any man would actually think of letting his wife, sister, daughter, or even his mother drive in today’s conditions. I know I wouldn’t. So women, for the love of god, DON’T DRIVE!!!
