Women vs. Men Being either a man or woman in society today has its advantages and disadvantages. For the past thousands of years, men have been known as the dominant creature, or playfully, the “Alpha Male”. Ironically, their dominance has decreased century by century. Many feminists have been arguing the past decade that men are now becoming boys. The facts and statistics are hard to argue against. Is it true females are now becoming the dominate gender in the world? Women are making a come up in the world. This is not a contest between men, or a campaign to belittle men to the status of a child, but it is very obvious that now women are equal with men in today’s society and are demanding the credit and respect deserved. Women have earned bigger roles to play in society. Women have gained a lot of power in politics, the work force and at home. Just barely over a hundred years ago, women could not voice their opinion in politics, could not vote, or could not even think about running for office positions. Now, women are running for President. Once upon a time, women were not allowed to go outside the home to pursue higher education and a career; working was strictly their spouse’s role. In 2009, the Institute of Education Sciences calculated the undergraduate enrollment population. In the United States, there were 10,325,646 women enrolled compared to 7,778,470 men. Projections to 2013 indicate that women undergraduate enrollment will increase to 8.9 million or 57 percent of the undergraduate population. Department of Education studies show that women not only lead in getting Bachelor’s degrees, but they make better grades. Also, college men reported they studied less and socialized more than females. These statistics start at a young age, boys are far more likely than girls to be suspended or expelled, or have a learning disability or emotional problem
