Intro to Mass Comm Wireless Weekend Experience Essay In today’s society, it amazes me to think of how much of an impact electronics have on the world. We live in a world today where we would not be able to communicate as effectively without the technological advances we have made since the days before the electronic era. Although it is not impossible to function without electronics, it is safe to say that with them, the world is more connected as one. After having many thoughts and inquiries prior to actually testing the experience, I decided to participate in the Wireless Weekend assignment. During my Wireless Weekend, I learned much more than I bargained for before choosing to partake in the assignment. I noticed how much I depended on things like television, my laptop, and my cell phone. Initially, it did not cross my mind that I would have a mental tie to each individual item, nor that I would think that they were the only way of getting a certain task done. For example, I always hear of recent news because of what’s shown to me either on television or the homepage on my computer’s internet browser; which is CNN. I noticed that although I use those two methods constantly, those weren’t the only two available. After waking up on Friday morning around 10 a.m., I realized that I had overslept due to my alarm clock on my cell phone not being set. This is an example of one of the many functions my cell phone had in my daily life. Luckily, the day before, I checked the weather and found that it would be a sunny day. If I wouldn’t have, I would have had to decide what to wear completely off of instinct. This portion of the day alone made me miss my cell phone, but I knew that there were many more issues to come in the days ahead.
