Windshield Survey Steven A. Ginsburg Community and Family Nursing/NSG420 July 23, 2013 Karen Jones Windshield Survey My goal for this assignment was to find a family to observe, obtain consent for observation, and complete a survey of the environment in which they live. The purpose of this assignment was to familiarize myself with my family in an effort to be able to summarize an overall impression of my family’s community and environment, note any observations about cultural diversity and vulnerable populations that may be present, identify five aspects of the community that could affect my families health and identify one Healthy people 2020 LHI and explain how it is relevant to their community. Community According to Merriam-Webster (2013) community is defined as, “The people with common interests living in a particular area”. My family, which consists of an autocratic matriarchal ran group of three (two parents and one daughter), defines their community as “A northern border of Belleview Ave, southern boarder of Bowles, eastern border of Santa Fe Dr., and western border of Lowell” J. T. Zummo (personally communication, July 22, 2013). Within their community I was able to find areas that are unique to this environment. It contained the old Centennial Race Track, which was open from 1978-1983, South Platte River, Bowles Grove Park, Berry Park, Columbine Square Shopping Center, Ken Caryl Valley, 24 Hour Fitness, Columbine Valley Shopping Center and Littleton Golf course. Within this given community it is listed that, “91% of the population 37,612 people are white, 1% or 598 people are African American and 2% or 1,003 people are Asian or Pacific Islander” ("Movoto Neighborhood Information For Littleton, Co, 80123", 2004-2013). This same website states that they have a “High school graduation population of 45% or 12,656 people, and 37% or 10,463
