Why you should not circumcise your son Circumcision is a painful, risky and unnecessary surgery that harms and has harmed over a million baby boys each year. The American Academy of Pediatrics doesn’t endorse this surgery. No professional medical associations in the United States or in other parts of the world recommend routine neonatal circumcision because there is no medical reasoning for it.(savingoursons.org) First off, a baby’s foreskin is a normal, sensitive, functioning part of his body. For infant boys, the foreskin is attached to the head of the penis; this protects it from urine, feces and irritation. It also helps from germs entering the urinary tract preventing urinary tract infections. Circumcision permanently alters baby boy’s genitals by removing healthy protective tissue from the penis and exposing the child to unnecessary pain and medical risks with no medical benefit. It’s basically considered cosmetic surgery and not even the government health insurance (Medicaid) does not pay for this procedure. Second off, removing parts of a baby’s penis is painful, risky and very harmful. We know that babies are extremely sensitive to pain and many circumcisions are performed without any analgesics. As with any kind of surgery there are also the risks of complications that can occur such as infection, abnormal bleeding, and removal of too much skin, loss of all part of the glans, urinary problems and even death of an infant. Third off, a natural and intact penis requires no special care, beyond gentle washing while bathing. Later on when the boy is older, the foreskin can be retracted and can be taught how to pull back his foreskin and wash properly. Forcibly retraction of the penis can cause great pain and injury and should never be done. And lastly, because times have changed and we are much more informed of this procedure and the risk it
