There may not be any substance more essential to all living things than water. However, most people don't look at what the properties of this oh so vital liquid are. Water has a handful of properties we should know about, three of them are its use as a universal solvent, The States Of Water, and Surface Tension. Water has a certain chemical behavior that allows it to be a universal solvent. A solvent is a liquid in which substances are dissolved forming a solution. More substances dissolves in water than in any other chemical. The reason for this is the polarity of water. Water has a positive and negative charge. The ability of water to dissolve many solutions is vital for all organisms. Water acts a tractor trailor traveling and carrying things around to other places to let reactions happen.
