Lately, there have been many news stories about young adults who have committed suicide due to cyberbullying. In today’s society, the internet has become very common and it plays a major role in teenagers’ lives. They can shop, express their thoughts, and even make new friends online. It is also important to note how easy it is to distribute information across the internet in very little time. While there are positive outcomes of the internet, there still exist dangerous aspects to it, such as bullying.
New generation likes to use social media as self advertisement and sometime they share very personal information. Moriah Gutierrez Dr. Roberto Garcia English 111 10 September 2012 The digital world today, has many people, including myself convinced that with a tap of a button all your stress and worries can easily disappear. It’s easy for teens and young adults to get sucked into this world of dangerous world of digital addiction. According to the essay, “Tweets, Texts, Email, and Posts: Is the Onslaught making us Crazy?” The author, Tony Dokoupil, first describes the web as a utopia. Which, for some people is true, there are many other people to interact with over the internet. For those who battle loneliness, depression, or other mental illnesses, the web is a window to the outside world.
With the rapid development of the society, Internet plays a larger and larger role in our daily life. The question of how free we are when we express ourselves online also becomes an issue. The Supreme Court deals with a case called Elonis v. United States this term, which involves a man says on Facebook that he will kill his wife, a FBI agent, and bomb an elementary school. As far as I am concerned, the Supreme Court should limit the extension of such kind of violent speech because it has already caused threats to other individuals and the society as a whole, and such fact is more important than whether he intended to do so or not. Elonis believes that his right of free speech under the protection of the First Amendment was violated.

It’s important to understand why people use this type of bullying. Cyber bullying is used in an effort to make the person who is doing the bulling feel better about themselves, in a way that isn’t as confrontational. As many as 25% of teenagers have experienced cyberbullying, even though there is still more bullying at school in comparison to online.
Many college students are posting inappropriate pictures and posting comments about substance abuse that violate student-conduct policies or local laws. Students these days are now being charged with code violations because of their Facebook postings. Online communities and texting also is being used as a form of cheating in the classroom. The author states a few institutions are blocking Facebook altogether. He thinks the students should be taught interpersonal intelligence and learn when, where, and what kind of internet usage is appropriate.
St Teresa’s Catholic College Year 11 English 2013 Spoken Public Persuasive Text “Rowdy or just Misunderstood?” Riley Bruce Good evening, I am Riley Bruce reporting for ‘A Current Affair.’ Tonight’s show is, ‘Rowdy or Just Misunderstood?’ This story will be looking at the way our media today represents the different age groups of our society, and how it may influence people’s opinions on that certain generation. The most common age group that the media portrays as being the most ‘rough’ and ‘bad’ are the adolescence of today. Teenagers today are thought of as loud, irresponsible, violent and dangerous. The media tends to follow stories of young teenagers drinking, doing drugs, illicitly spray painting on public property and walls, also, committing such offences like shoplifting and drink driving. Yes this does go on in our world and there is nothing we can do to stop it.
Social issues A major social issue in my generation is technology such as cell phones, computers, tablets etc… The 2000’s is mainly based off of social media like the wide spread of “My Space and other cites that connect you with people around the world. I think we all spend way too much of our time entertaining other people. Social media is not being used in the right way, which I think its harming people. Certain things should be monitored more closely especially pertaining to people of a younger age group. All of this technology is really hurting people and not actually helping them.
