– The manager relies on control; the leader inspires trust. Managers are organisers who focus on operations. His function is operational. Manager coordinates people and processes, the utilisation of human and material resources to achieve and organisation’s objectives. Managers of an organisation manage: themselves, people and relationships, policies and procedures, environments, financial and physical resources, information and technology, ideas, operations and processes.
Project 1 Explain how, when working, you would find out what was expected of you and what work standards would be expected of you. How would this knowledge impact on the ways in which you organise your time and manage your work tasks? When working in a workplace I would firstly be expected to find out what the relevant industry standards are and what the organisational goals are within their workplace. I would find out what was expected from the job description that has been assigned to me and a thorough explanation on the job description so that both my employee and I are clear on what is expected by me. Also having a clear understanding of customer expectations and values is essential, as they are important to meet the demands and thus assists the organisation in achieving their personal goals.
Planning/strategizing works together with the organization’s primary purpose based on where the organization wants to be and what it will take for them to get there. Planning/strategizing enables management to go beyond daily activities to set realistic goals for the organization’s success. Organizing involves setting the structure and the coordination and use of available resources needed to carry out tasks necessary to achieve the organizational plans. Leading is the ability to motivate people to give their best both individually and within group settings. Through guidance, leadership ability, and supervision of employees managers achieve organizational goals.
Under this relationship, leaders identify the specific talents of each of their employees, motivate them and coach them towards utilizing their talents effectively. Leaders are also responsible for building trust between them and their subordinates. Leaders involve guiding a group of people toward achieving the best result in and a company. The leadership of a company mainly involves creating a vision for the company. It involves modeling the vision, forming teams, influencing them and aligning people to achieve the set goals.
Also will need to establish the productivity measures and compare those with the company or organization figures. Lastly, the manager will need to have a team meeting; take contribution on achieving the goals set by the manager, and institute a common goal for the teams. The transformational leadership style will work for the restructuring strategy with the new management practices, because the teams are mature and under the strong leadership of new management. In order to allow the new transformational leadership to be effective, one will have to recognize critical competencies, educate their employees, and motivate, empower, and encourage the teams to facilitate them to focus on accomplishing their goals effectively. It is important to engage the employees in the critical thinking process, decision making process and setting a common subsidiary goal that will be able to help the specialists to merge well with the existing teams.

As an employee you should work in a way that is clearly set out in the job description – this will then mean that you know what areas of care you would be responsible for and those that should be reported to a higher member of staff etc. Bi) What is it? Assignment – Unit 8000-250 Developing Yourself as a Team Leader Task 1 Understand the role and responsibilities of a team leader Assessment Criteria 1 – Outline the role of the Team Leader The role of a Team Leader is someone who provides guidance, instruction, direction and motivation to lead others within an organisation. The Team Leader role differs from that of a First Line Manager, as the Team Leader will typically focus on a short term day to day performance and also be operational. As one of the Duty Managers within Solihull Connect, it is my role to lead and guide a team to carry out the day to day performance of delivery of customer service and to ensure that the team members have all the tools available to them to carry out the task, for example to make sure that all computer systems are available. It is my role to provide guidance and support to team members especially when dealing with more complex enquiries or when required to handle any difficult situations which the team members cannot deal with, for example handing difficult or aggressive customers. It is my role to monitor performance and to distribute tasks as necessary to the team members.
These resources could be skills within the team, they could be experience or an experienced member of the team, and potentially they could even be financial resources that will help the team achieve what it needs to within the business. Co-ordination of team resources may involve deciding which members of the team would best utilize the training resources to improve the performance of the team on a whole and how the training could be shared; but as long as the team is working together in a co-ordinated way it should meet targets. Monitoring of team performance: The monitoring of team performance allows the team leader or manager to evaluate how well their subordinates are working, to assist their subordinates the team leader would have to effectively utilize resources. If resources are used ineffectively then it can be detrimental to the team’s performance e.g. a call operator may spend too long on each call, this would tire them out and drag the rest of the team’s performance down with them.
With Citigroup’s organizational culture it has guided employees toward the behaviors and attitudes that have put the company at risk. The company must revert to what is important that is the customers and focus on the core values of the organizations, and the vision of the organization. To change Citigroup’s organizational culture there needs to be a shared responsibility among the leaders of the company, managers, and employees. By having a shared responsibility will make Citigroup’s organizational culture more effective and productive. Having shared responsibility will allow each employee to achieve or accomplish his or her full potential, and acting with the greatest level integrity when dealing with one another, and customers.
In addition, management controls the process as well as providing the path, rules, and resources to reach the companies goal (Kumle, 2006). Roles of Managers and Leaders Some say that the difference between a manager and being a leader is that management is career while leadership is a calling. Being a leader, one has to have a clearly defined convictions and most importantly, the courage of one’s convictions to see them manifest into reality (Kossoff, 2011). Effective leadership skills are developed and refined by time, experience, and a true desire to be more than just a manager, but a true leader.
