Why study literature? Literature is used to define the materials that are spoken or written. This entails anything written in a creative way and also to technical woks that may be scientific. Mostly this term is used as appoint of reference of works of imagination that is creative, this include poetry works, fiction, nonfiction and drama. Literature is an admired art and well appreciated due to its thematic concerns and properties that are formal. This article outlines why literature should be studied and its relevance. Literature is a way of in which art is appreciated. There are several reasons why literature should be studied. To start, literature is seen as means of communication. Literal texts are discussed and analysed. Stylistic merit form of writing and improving the knowledge of people are included. For instance the issue of true love is emphasized in the text “love in the time of cholera”. Exploring the beliefs and cultures of other people can be achieved after studying literature. As opposed to other subjects like history, one can experience the beliefs and the culture of other people as first-hand courtesy of literature. It helps one look at things from inside out. The culture and beliefs of the Chinese community is clearly outlined in the text “The Joy Luck club”. We learn of the Chinese game mah-jong that is played as a source of money and also the varied meals among the Chinese. This help to easily interact with people after understanding where they come from. People can learn to appreciate why an individual is who s/he is through literature. People are different in different ways for instance in beliefs, knowledge and experience. By living with this people, one can learn different things from them expanding one’s mind.
