Confucianism is highly advocated in China. In stead of saying Confucianism is a religion, I think Confucianism is concepts of state of moral idea. It provided spiritual and intellectual knowledge to the Chinese. It taught us to be self-ruled and to be virtuous person. The Chinese believed it is a virtue to follow Confucianism.
So, there are many examples of not thinking for yourself and thinking for youself in this novel. In the novel the main character is Guy Montag and his wife Mildred Montag, and Mildred is the one who should be thinking for herself. She is letting the government get to her head, and everything they say she believes. Even though she is married to Montag, she thinks that the "parlor walls are her family" (Bradbury 49). Montag is her family, but she doesn't consider him as much as a family compaired to the parlor walls.
How far do the sources suggest that the political system before 1832 was in need of reform? During 1829-30, the demand for reform revived. A small group of Whip MPs had always favoured a moderate reform, and the Whig leader, Lord Grey, had always been in favour of the idea of a reform. Source 1 is a letter written to his daughter by Sir Philip Francis, a Whig politician in the pocket borough of Appleby. He clearly benefits from the unreformed parliament as he is faced with no opposition with the elections.
Ancient China’s Philosophies In China there were three major philosophies, which were Legalism, Daoism, and Confucianism. All of them played an important role in China. One major philosophy that came out of China was Confucianism. Confucians strongly believed in Duty, humanity, and the Filial Piety. Duty is a work ethic, it meant that you had to work hard to fulfill the duties and the affairs of society will prosper as a whole.
Ancient Chinese people worshipped their ancestors because they thought that the ancestors would bring good luck to the family. Chinese people built shrines to their ancestors near their houses. In the movie Mulan, Mulan’s family has a shrine for their ancestors in their yard. Her dad goes to pray to his ancestors and says “Honorable ancestors please help Mulan impress the matchmaker today.” When the guards came to get new recruits for the army Mulan says “Ancestors hear my plea, help my father stand.” When Mulan’s parents find out that she left, her grandmother said, “Ancestors hear our prayer, watch over Mulan.” The Veneration of
For example, although the opposition is stated briefly within the article, there is little attention given to the argument of spirituality and the beliefs that come along with some people’s thoughts on the afterlife and what happens to the human body after one passes away. Carney also uses an argument made by Aaron Spital and James Stacey Taylor in their article, “Routine Recovery of Cadaveric Organs for Transplantation: Consistent, Fair, and Life-Saving,” published by the American Society of Nephrology, that states, “…the government reserves the right to draft young men against their will into war and risk their lives in combat operations” (as cited in Carney, 2007). This statement seems to constitute a fallacy in that it is drawing the reader’s attention away from the actual argument and is instead trying to play upon a sense of patriotic obligation. It is in the author of this review’s opinion that this quote is distracting from the argument and takes away from the validity of what is being proposed. The target audience of the
From Confucius and the Analects: 1. From this brief selection of writings attributed to Confucius, how would you characterize his philosophy – what sorts of qualities would you select to describe it? One of the most important qualities of the Confucian philosophies is kindness. An example is shown in this quote: “Approach them with dignity, and they will respect you. Show piety towards your parents and kindness toward your children, and they will be loyal to you.
Reb Saunders uses the silent parenting style on Danny, where he only speaks to him while studying religion. When Reuven and Danny become friends, Danny is being forced into being a rabbi, like his father, although he desires to become a psychologist. Reuven helps Danny to break away from what his father wants and realize his own dream of studying psychology. When Reuven helps a fly escape from a spider’s web, it is symbolic of him helping Danny escape the web of his father. When viewed from this perspective, Reuven could be considered “chosen” to be the one that liberates

In the section of family, Li mention that the children are believe to be property of their parents but also the future to society (158) so their parents regard it as their responsibility to look after their children’s study and life. In her journal Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, Deborah Stipek stated that Chinese claimed that they would feel more proud if their child were accepted to a prestigious university than if they were accepted themselves, whereas Americans claimed they would feel equally proud in these two circumstances. Americans had more positive attitudes toward expressing pride in personal accomplishments, and Chinese were more likely to claim that pride should only be experienced for outcomes that benefit others(
