Miss Gates talks about how Hitler is evil for killing all the Jews, and how being prejudiced against someone for their religion is wrong, yet she is racist against black people. So, she is a hypocrite for saying it is wrong to judge someone by their religion, but it’s ok to judge black people for their colour. Her ideas are widely the same as the people of Maycomb making it a racist and hypocritical community. 33. Bob Ewell attacked and followed Jem and Scout home, he jumped out in front of them but Jem pushed him which then made him fall on his own knife, which then killed him.
But after her father yells at her and tells her if she doesn’t marry she’ll be kicked out of the house; she goes to Friar Laurence for advice. When Juliet takes the potion Friar Laurence gives her she has to think about it. This is something Romeo probably wouldn’t do. But love over comes her decision and she takes it. Nobody tells Romeo that it’s just a potion and Juliet’s not really died, he buys poison and goes to Juliet’s tomb.
Because their relationship is an affair, they cannot see each other in the way they want to very often and especially not while other people are around. They are not married to each other which make their relationship very wrong in that community and time- more so wrong than it would be now. John Procter understands that their secret must be kept, but finished, but Abigail doesn’t care that they were caught once and could be caught again. She just wants their relationship back and says, “Oh, I marvel, how such a strong man may let such a sickly wife be-” (miller 22) Abigail then comes to claim that Elizabeth, john’s wife, is “Blackening me (her) name in the village!” She is telling lies about me (her)!” (Miller 22) but he just gets angry at himself because it’s true, and threatens to whip her for talking about his wife that
Cousin Francis yelled, “He`s nothing` but a nigger-lover!” (Lee pg83). Just because Atticus was doing the right and noble thing, Cousin Francis thought that he loved black people but he did not know Tom. Although, Jem stated that, “Atticus says cheatin` a coloured man is ten times worse than cheatin` a white man.” (Lee pg201) It is worse because it is like killing a mockingbird, which is a sin, coloured men do not really bother anybody. And then Atticus explained that, “...You’ll see white men cheat black men everyday of your life, ...whenever a white man does that to a black man, ... that white man is trash.” (Lee pg220). He explained that white men always win and cheat, so the white men are the victors but the white man is always a bad man.
The Montague’s family was enemy with the Capulet’s family, they would fight every time they sees each other. If they didn't really disliked each other Romeo wouldn't have killed Tybalt and Romeo would have killed himself. If the Montague’s family wasn’t enemy with Capulet’s then no one would have died and Romeo and Juliet would be happily married. When Tybalt got killed Benvilo saw Romeo kill Tybalt. They weren’t unkind and mean to Capulet’s family, if they just held back there anger nothing would of happen.
She tempted a negro” (pg 217) When she broke this code, she realized that she needed to get rid of the evidence. Tom Robinson was the evidence and he became the scapegoat for her guilt and regret. “Cheating a colored man is ten times worse then cheating a white man’ (pg 201) He was used as a scapegoat because they would win. He was black, they were white, and the one that looses the battle is always the darker skinned. He was a scapegoat that was for sure to loose.
Civil rights marches were led by Martin Luther King and Malcolm X in the 1960’s. The novel shows us how one single incident of persecution can effect a whole community. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson was charged with raping Mayella Ewell, found guilty by a racist jury, and was killed whilst trying to escape prison, even though Atticus proved to the jury that it was obvious that he was innocent. He was found guilty, however, because he was a Negro and seen to be less than human. Even though all of the jury were racist, some members of Maycomb County began to see that the unfair way in which they treated the Negroes was wrong.
Because of this racism, Tom tried to escape from his town but ended up being killed. Atticus was trying to bring about justice, and trying to protect an innocent person. This went against the social codes of this time period. Blacks were under constant attack because of their skin color. But this did not matter to Atticus; he went against everyone, and what everyone said just to prove that Tom was innocent.
Abigail’s greed was the most destructive to the outcome of this story. She destroyed most people’s reputation in the town. Many innocent people are hanged for crimes they did not commit including John Proctor. Abigail wanted to get rid of John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth, and Elizabeth was charged with consorting with the devil. Abigail new the punishment for the crime of witchcraft was hanging and carried out her accusation so that she and Jon could “dance upon her grave together.”(Act 3) John Proctor is also charged with witch craft; he had a choice of lying about consorting with the devil or keeping his integrity.
Because of indifferent jurors and career-motivated prosecutors, the self-serving and groundless accusations of a single women were allowed to change forever the lives of nine black teenagers who found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time (Linder). In To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Tom Robinson, a black man, was found guilty of raping Maya Ewell, a white woman. Even though he didn’t commit the crime, they didn’t want to believe him because they have to rule with the white person. This shows how unfair and racist the court system was in the twentieth
