Reading multicultural literature is not merely for pleasure, it is also for knowledge and understanding. The knowledge and understanding gained by reading multicultural literature, if read open mindedly, has the potential to close the cultural gaps many people face and bring the world closer together. Determining what multicultural literature will be most beneficial to read to gain knowledge and understanding can be difficult and tedious. Yes, the information was very relevant to the topic. It provided a lot of different ways to approach critical thinking while reading. In this book author Tim O’Brien use a style unique to this novel. His tone is appropriate for storytelling which is the main thing happening in this book. There is also different point of views from which the stories are told. Though O’Brien is the narrator his stories come from the views and experiences of others.
We can see the journey that Paul is on and relate it to our own which is a significant feature of the novel. The text itself gives the person strength but the idea of how precious what they are holding empowers the reader furthermore. Now it’s their own little secret weapon that they must protect at all costs and then pass it on when the time is right. Starting off we focused on analysis of other’s writings and introspection of how those words had a strong impact on our lives. It provided a basis for us to think critically about what we are reading and what the author has intended for us to understand. Next we looked at rhetorical analysis and how the words a writer or orator uses can affect their message. Analyzing how effective the rhetors choice of words are in relation to context, message, and audience, allowed for self reflection on how we made similar choices in our own writings.

Characters are important to me because I find you can often relate to them, making me feel more engaged in reading the book. The setting of a story helps the reader visualize what is going on and better connects the person with the story.
