Connie McBride AC0707685 Writing Assessment EN110 Achieving Academic Excellence “Why College is Important to Me” Working menial jobs to get through high school really didn’t give me the push to jump right into college. I tried a few classes here and there and it was something that seemed to be a temporary thing to occupy time. I was young and didn’t realize what college was going to mean to my adulthood challenges. After finally accepting a full time job that could lead to a career for some time it became clear that college would have been a good choice for me to have been successful. I quickly began to attend college classes through my employer to make gains in my career and try to possibly secure my future.
Like most high school seniors, I felt I knew everything I needed to pass by life. The thought of college very rarely crossed my mind so after high school all I was thinking of was all I need to do now is find a job. I quickly found out finding a job isn’t as easy as everyone who tells you. When I did think of college, I kept telling myself “I think I should take a few years off from school to find work.” Boy was that the worse idea I ever had, and now I wish I could take it all back. Unlike most high school students I didn’t attend a normal class, I felt the teacher was going too slowly at times and there was never any stress from other Students.
Back to School Ramona Dory English 121- Week 3 Assignment Andrea Pfaff - Instructor Regan Tuttle - TA October 10, 2011 Back to School I never thought I would be 43 years old and going back to school. I will be talking about going back to school and why I decided to go back to school to get a degree. I always planned to go to college, after I graduated high school; I attend a technical school and got a diploma in Data Entry. I thought that would help me find a job so that I would be able to go to college, but I was not able to find a job in that field, so I was just working where I could in order to pay bills. I attempt several times before now to go back to school, but always got side track or something distracted me.
History was quite a challenge like I had expected. Being in a college level class taught me how to manage my time wisely. At first it was hard because I was so used to having a limited quantity of homework, that when my AP teacher gave us our six page assignment I was flabbergasted. Though the paper was due within three days I still felt like I was struggling.After completing the assignment I knew I conquered the Challenging assignment. Besides taking an AP Course in school I took a Political Science course at Hunter College.
I tried college right after high school but dropped out because I felt like I was wasting time and money. I told myself that when I decided what to major in I would go back and get my degree. I have been working as the office manager of a long term care facility and realized that my career path has reached its max potential with out a degree. My experience working with the accounts receivable and accounts payable and monitoring the financial process of a business has awakened my desire for more out of my career. At this point in my life I would love to move into the corporate level but need the college degree to do so.
Returning Back to School I graduated back in 1984. While I was in high school, I had never thought about college because I was lead to believe that for me to go to college I had to have scholarships. So I decided that I will have to make do on what I can do for myself. Well back in 2000, a friend asked me why I haven’t decided to go back to school. She told me that I should seriously consider to think about what I can accomplish for myself and my children by returning back to school for a better career, so we talked about what possible careers that is good for me.

Little did I know it would take me so long to finish what I started back then. I am going to share with you why returning to school is important to me, the benefits of getting a college degree and what motivates me to make this choice and continue to stick with it. Like everyone who decides to return to school I would like a better job, better pay and of course a college degree.
I’m realizing it now one month before I am able to graduate. My actions were influenced by my teacher letting me pass with the bare minimum on essay. All about Me Jennifer Webb COLL 100 I026 Fall 11 American Public University Eleanor Hewitt My name is Jennifer Webb and I am going to write an essay about why I decided to go back to school. I got tired trying to found a decent job, I wanted my daughters to follow in myself steps and go to college. I learned that most jobs are looking for some kind of college degree. I have been out of school for awhile and so I was a little nervous but after getting started I feel more comfortable with going to school. I want my daughters to always know that you can never get to old to learn new things.
The difference between having a degree and just a high school diploma is over $18,000 per year. If I had to choose one reason for seeking a college degree it would be the motivation by my peers at work, and later by my parents, neither of which went to college. After coming off of a two-year mobilization in Fort Knox, KY I decided to finally start my secondary education with American Military University and take advantage of the Tuition Assistance that the Army provides. Since starting school, I have been able to identify my personal learning style, strategies for taking tests, and how important structure is in my day-to-day life. Being able to identify myself as a kinesthetic or tactile learner has helped me realize that hands-on instruction works best for me, and how to stay engaged in things that may not hold my attention completely.
