WHY I SEEK AN HR CAREER Human Resource Management (HR/HRM) is a strategic and comprehensive approach to managing people and the workplace culture and environment. It is also a function within an organization that focuses on recruitment of, management of, providing direction for the people who work in the organization. In today’s increasingly technological workforce, finding and managing the needs of a diverse variety of talent is essential to maintaining a healthy business. The few assets that a company has that are ‘‘on loan’’ are their human assets. They do not own the people that they employ. Therefore, they must be managed so as to select, train and retain the best of them and return back to the labor pool those who do not meet corporate standards. These I have learnt in the few months of functioning in a HR company. As a graduate of Botany with a scientific research background, my few months work experience in a HR company spurred the interests in pursuing a career in HRM. Even though I was majorly involved in recruitment processes, I found the job to be very interesting and positively challenging. Apart from the fact that I like people, this career path also provides me with options to pick from to grow/expand in. The field of HRM is an exciting place to find a career, because it is never boring whether it is hiring new employees, fulfilling the needs of existing ones, running training programs, and so on, there’s always value to add either to the employee or employer Amongst my personal qualities are my love for people (interacting and meeting new people), commitment to continuous learning and good listening / communication skills. Having been in the HR line for a few months I have seen a place where my personal qualities fits in perfectly, where I will derive daily satisfaction and also one that will continually expose/challenge me
