Finding a job is very difficult to come by. It’s so prevalent to have more than a high school diploma. Many years ago a high school diploma was enough to obtain a job making decent money, but now it’s an absolute must to have a college degree and training. I want to be able to provide a comfortable life style for my family. Having a nice home, frequent vacations and financial freedom is a wonderful persuasion for obtaining my degree.
I will not only get the knowledge and information I need for my major, Accounting, but by taking other courses I will also learn new things that I do not already know now. I am the type of person that loves to learn new things and going to college offers a huge variety of subjects to be learned. That is the case with this course, Introduction to University Studies, I have learned several tools and assessments that will not only help me with college, but also with my career as well. I have learned by creating S.M.A.R.T goals, for both my short term and long term goals, it will help me gain the skills, knowledge, and values that is needed to become successful both academically and professionally. By making sure my goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely it will help me keep me on
I am joining so that I may move out and wreak the benefits of the GI bill. The military will give me money to go to college and buy an apartment. Which brings us back to college, every thing I do in life revolves around college. My father was right, the better the education I have the better job I can get in the future. I can’t get a good high paying job that supports my future family and I with just a GED.
Since this was the case, workers only needed to know simple tasks to get the job done. In today’s world, these simple tasks are now replaced by machines, which require people to complete more sophisticated tasks, only obtainable with a college education. A good job is hard to come by today, but a college degree can make finding one easier. The main reason why I am attending college is to obtain a bachelor’s degree, but also to learn independence, and develop a network of friends and contacts. The main reason why I am attending college is to obtain my bachelor’s degree.
I have future plans of becoming a counselor or a life coach, I plan to make the final decision on which one when I have had a chance to practice as an intern; That is how I think I will learn better which one is more suitable for me personally. I also chose to attend college because I want to set a good example for my children. It makes much more sense for them to see me going to college, rather than for them to just hear me tell them why I feel it is so important that they go. I understand that, by my choice to attend college, there will be obstacles and fears that I will need to overcome and work through, but my goals and strengths will help me through this. I chose Lackawanna College because I felt that the programs offered here would help as a starting point towards achieving my goal to further my education, and to eventually transfer to another college after getting a degree in Human Services at Lackawanna College.
In Barbara Ehrenreich’s article she theorizes that, “…Employers prefer college grads because they see a college degree chiefly as mark of one’s ability to obey and conform.” This statement in which Ehrenreich gives her theory on how employers think is outrageous. I go to college because I want to start a good foundation that will help benefit my career. Students should want to go to college to help their futures, not to just get a job. My second reason for disagreeing mostly with Ehrenreich’s article of college being a scam is college should create students passion for what students want to do. In Ehrenreich’s article she states, “…Most of what you need to know you’re going to learn on the job anyway.” I think this example of Ehrenreich’s opinion from her article is just being used to sway the audience to side with her.
During the years of college a student will learn a profession(s) that will help them choose a career that will keep them financially stable like everyone would like to be. Also since the world in advancing, many jobs rely on new technological ideas and problem solving skills that will be learning in college if that is your choice. College is basically all together a way to guarantee that you will have money in the future when you get a job. On average, a person that goes to college makes more money than a person that chose not to go to college or further their education standards and levels. For example, a person that only has an High School Diploma will not make as much money and a person that went to a two- year college after High School.
Some people feel that it is unnecessary to further their education after high school. They may often feel that twelve years of learning from lectures and textbooks in school has led them to have a lack of experience in the outer world. It is normal to think this way, but I believe that obtaining a college education will guide an individual down the road of endless possibilities and opportunities that others may not have. It will open doors for individuals to have hands-on experience, networking opportunity, and higher paying jobs. Therefore, we should encourage all young individuals to pursue a college education after high school.
