Why I Am Better Than You

Why I Am Better Than You Think you’re better than me? You rocks won’t ever have all the great qualities that I, Fluorite, possess. Did you know that I shine in several different colors, unlike your dull, gray rocky color? My colors consists of pretty royal purple, milky pearl-white, beautiful brilliant blue, sea-colored blue-green, glorious green, sunny yellow, earth-colored brownish-yellow, petal pink, warm lovable red, or even cool colorless makes me look better than plain, rusty, million year-old rocks. I am a sea-colored blue-green, vitreous, nicely-cut piece of fluorite. Fluorites are slightly-soft rock. We score a 4 on the Moh's scale. It’s not always good to be hard, either. Being soft is another helpful adaptation for lowering the melting point of raw materials in steel production. All rocks can do is sit there, weather, erode, and deposit. What fun is that? We fluorites have much more exciting lives. My siblings and I can even be used to make high-performance telescopes. The minerals fluorites are composed of are: calcium fluoride, a.k.a. CaF2, calcium, and fluorine. I can also dissolve slightly in water! I can be found lining the cavities of spherically-shaped, hollow stones called geodes, which are prettier than rocks, or hanging out with my good friends Granite, Granitic Pegmatite, Syenite, Quartz, Dolomite, Calcite, Barite, Pyrite, Galena, Sphalerite, and Cassiterite . My streak is white, but it’s better than having no streak at all, like rocks. These are all of the best reasons why fluorites are better than dusty old rocks, but now I’ll tell you a little about why all minerals are better than rocks. Minerals are usually shiny or glassy. We sometimes have crystals embedded between out smooth layers. I know, rocks have good qualities, too, but the only rock I get along with, my friend Obsidian, is probably the only rock with good qualities. Obsidian
