In other cases, like Carr said, it does make people lazy. Instead of searching for something and reading the entire context of something to learn it, people will just look up the answer. Yes, knowing the answer is good, but knowing how to get the answer or how to get to it is almost as important. In Dewey's essay, his topic is, "Is school making us smart?". In my opinion, school itself doesn't make us smart, but it does give you the opportunity to become more knowledgable.
In fact, every time I just hope that my brain will come with something creative that I could start with. Writing assignments, sometimes it makes me feel as the world is conspiring against me; on one side of my brain are the negative thoughts and fear that keep me away from writing a great paper, and on the other side, instead of positive mind, I encounter with the thoughts like, “Do I ever going to present a really great essay?”, “Will I pass the class?” But, not everything had been unfavorable on my writing experience. Although of all these dissection, I have accomplished great things as well. For instance, I learned more about myself; I have learned things I needed to improve and change on my writing, and about my fears. Additionally, I have noticed tremendous progress on my writing skills, that is, I write much faster now, therefore, I get better papers and grades.
So i can say that in this class, ideology impacted me to an extent, but in certain areas, its still undefined for me. Though my education and how i can ideologically apply it to literature is still undefined, I can easily say that i really enjoyed this class. I walked out knowing more than i did when i came in, and it also altered the way i view things such as friends, family, work, religion and so on. I could never study ideology itself and truly be interested but i am very glad that i was given an opportunity to learn that there are other ways of viewing everyday
Jordan Taylor 4/24/12 Composition II Polites Reflective Statement In this course, College Composition II, I have learned many forms of writing effective argumentative pieces. The main thing I learned this year is how to effectively use sources to aid me in my argument. Along with that I learned that some sources are not credible and will not influence my writing much, if even at all. This helped me get better support in my arguments because I had credible sources that supported my argument. This course helped me utilize my sources better, made me realize my true freedom as a writer and understand how text may represent and have different meanings to other readers.
I knew the story had to be told. Not to transmit an experience is to betray it”(1) People would read what he wrote down and think about it. It usually comes the illusion after civilization but after reading it people might rethink about it. The impact on literacy is to let people consider what had happened with more points of view. Even though it is just Wiesel’s duty to write it down, the literacy may change people’s mind.
I chose the article BECOMING A CRITIC OF YOUR THINKING by Dr. Linda Elder and Dr. Richard Paul. I felt the message was more straightforward and relatable than some of the other articles I read. This article struck me as a “how-to guide” to improve one’s critical thinking, which is something anyone could benefit from even if one is already a good thinker. I liked how the article first asks the reader how much they really know about their own daily thinking. It’s an interesting question, because as the article also states, most people probably think that “it just happens in their minds automatically,” and that we probably, for the most part, “take our thinking for granted.” I know I am guilty on both counts.
However, the author then says that a lot of the criticism about video games is because they are being judged by old standards by people who believe reading is the main way for children to learn skills. He asks the reader to think of a world where video games came before books. Then he argues that the criticisms of books would look a certain way. The criticisms are the author’s way of showing benefits of video games, like they are three-dimensional, and they have strong visual images and sound. The user uses complex motor skills to navigate them.
Which made me wonder if he was "getting it" I realized I had begun to explain it a little to mathematically, I had taken it away from the fun Jessica Watson and gone in to the usual way of teaching maths . When I took it back to the factors that effected Jessica, and why she may not have always had the same amount of travel each day the interest was ignited. One of the children commented that they couldn't believe that all this fun maths was in the paper. That to me was priceless to see that they were using skills they already had and applying it in a way that was opening up their understanding to the
The reason I choose to continue my education is because I felt it was time for me the receive an education so that I could look back and tell myself I did something worthwhile! I’m always stressing to young Soldiers that they need an education and not to waste their time doing nothing, to do something with their time and make it worthwhile not to just be sitting around and playing video games so I took my own advice and decide to do something to where I can say I accomplished something! I have a few learning styles that I knew I had but wasn’t sure if this was what I was using and after doing the tests and learned that I was. My first one is Visual (Spatial) Learning Style which explains that I like using images, pictures, and colors to organize information which is so true because do like thoughts things to help me explain something to someone! I know I learned that from being in the military!
Today I want to try my best to persuade you why you should read books. It is a disappointment that nowadays people read books less often due to the widespread of technology Books were v hundred years ago, but with the invention of radio, television, and the Internet and computer games, people careless for reading books. However, once you complete reading a great written book it will have a great effect on it will motivate you to become a better person and increases your knowlage a lot and provide you with great inspiration. Some people argue that television in the present days is much more informative and interacting I agree on that to some extent. Television, on one hand, offers a colourful motion picture, whereas, the books, on the other hand allows you to think imaginatively with the characters in the book and their background story and the atmosphere that the story takes place. There are also people wondering why they would read from books rather than from online websites? spending hours reading from internet can cause you headaches and pain in your eyes, on the other hand books dosent cause you headaches nor problem in your eyes no matter how long you read except if you are reading it from a wrong angle .
