Why do people prefer to travel by public transport compared to owning a car? Public transportation has become very popular and more commonly used by the people in the recent years. There are several reasons why this shift of preferences has occurred from people owning and driving their own cars as compared to using public means of transportation. Firstly. the major problem people are facing is the scarcity of land. Roads have become more narrow and there are very limited open spaces for cars to park. Since the roads have become more congested and narrow, people tend to waste a lot of time getting to work and prefer public transport, as it is much faster and they can reach their destinations on time. This is very important to people now, as the value of time has become very important and people prefer to choose the more efficient and reliable option. People face trade-offs. They can spend an hour cleaning up the house or watching TV, but not both. They can have, within the hour, a clean house or the pleasure of having watching people get divorced in a movie or show, but not both. Similarly, a people can go to work in their own cars and feel comfortable more comfortable as they will be alone, but will reach late to work. The alternative choice could be travelling by public transport, which might be less comfortable but will enable people to reach their destinations on time.. Secondly, when driving, people have to focus on the road. They cannot read the newspaper or reply to an important email, they just have to drive and pay attention to the traffic around them, for their safety and that of others. When on the train people can multitask and do some important pending things. Or, they can catch up on some reading, emailing, or other activities. It’s a better return on investment, when it comes to time. Another benefit is that it can cut down on your medical costs.
