Why Am I Returning To School? Why Am I Returning To School? George Santayana once stated, “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it” (ThinkExist, 2010a). It seems as if this day and age feels like and relates to what the Great Depression would have been like. During this time in our lives when the competitive reality of job hunting is very much so present because of the status of the economy, why not return to school and complete your education? Returning to school has boosted my self-confidence by providing me with a higher education because it is going to ensure that I have a competitive edge over my opponents in searching for a job or career. I am going to explain to you why I am returning to school, some of the obstacles I have faced, methods for overcoming those obstacles, as well as some of the benefits that have and are to come with returning to school and completing my degree. Why am I returning to school? When I was first asked this question, it intrigued me. I have always loved learning about everything and reading, so seeing people who have taken years off from school fathoms me. Because I love learning, I have always wanted to obtain my degree for personal development as well as having a higher education underneath my belt. I come from a low-income family, so they could not afford to send me to college when I graduated from high school. Besides my father, who passed away when I was young, if I complete my degree I would be the only one in my family to have a college degree. Therefore, I know that if I complete my degree that would bring great pride to my family. I initially did not want to accumulate a large amount of student loans because I did not want to be in debt.
