Part A: When we refer back to the 1970s, most people generally think of punk rock, lava lamps, and the hippie movement. However for the economy, it was a devastating economic decade of stagflation, a three day week and the return of unemployment. During this time period according to Dollar and Sense, “From the late 1940s to the early 1970s, the U.S. economy grew at an average annual rate of nearly 4%. The annual unemployment rate only exceeded 6% twice in the 25 years between 1949 and 1973. The annual inflation rate, too, only topped 6% twice, and was actually under 2% for 14 of the 25 years in this period.
Introduction Representation 1 is a text extract from a GCSE textbook written by Sauvain and published in 1997. While representation 3 is a cartoon that gives insight into anti-war protests, it was created by John Fischetti and published during the Vietnam War. On the other hand, representation 2 is an extract from a book ‘America in Vietnam’ which was written by Guenter Lewy and was published in 1978. As historians, it is important to decide which representation best helps understand the way in which the people in the USA reacted to the Vietnam War. To help decide which is the best, three criteria could be used which is comprehensiveness, objectivity and accuracy to evaluate the representations.
NATIONAL REVIEW has attempted during its tenure as, so to speak, keeper of the conservative tablets to analyze public problems and to recommend intelligent thought. The magazine has acknowledged a variety of positions by right-minded thinkers and analysts who sometimes reach conflicting conclusions about public policy. As recently as on the question of troops to Bosnia, there was dissent within the family from our corporate conclusion that we'd be best off staying home. For many years we have published analyses of the drug problem. An important and frequently cited essay by Professor Michael Gazzaniga (Feb. 5, 1990) brought a scientist's discipline into the picture, shedding light on matters vital to an understanding of the drug question.
Vietnam helped Americans draw from experience new lessons that drastically reformed the society during the 1960 and 1970s, and called to attention the questioning of beliefs and morals. It demonstrated how war was a threat to economic growth, social stability, and politics, as well as how difficult restoration of such changes
The Vietnam War and the anti-war movement The Vietnam War was one of the most controversial wars in history. The events that started the war began in the 1950s, and the issues precipitated well into the 1970s. The war itself started an anti-war movement which included marches and protests, and became very prominent once the United States began bombing. After WWII colonies in Africa, the Mediterranean and Asia had established independence from their empires since they were busy dealing with the aftermath of the war. The French and the Dutch however still wanted to keep their colonies, including Vietnam which was a colony of the French, which caused dilemma for United States policy makers.
Historical Investigation- Guerilla Warfare Modern History Preliminary Course Guerilla warfare is implemented to try and achieve and obtain different objectives, it has also been used to attempt to gain government power within a country. The term Guerilla Warfare is widely known from its history in Vietnam, where there had been Vietcong soldiers, although the definition of guerilla warfare is the “sudden or unexpected attack which is often carried out by an unofficial military group or groups that are trying to change the government by attacks on the armed forces”. This method of warfare is very widely used in various wars such as The Cold War of (1945 – 1990), Vietnam War (1962-1975). Guerilla warfare originated with the Chinese general
Somewhat predictably, a lot of fuss has been made about the increase in asylum applications received by Australia. While numbers of asylum seekers globally have remained steady, Australia has seen a 30 per cent increase. A crude reading of this statistic may seem to support the “pull factor” argument, namely that Australian domestic legislation, not international situations, is to blame for seemingly large increases in the number of asylum applications. But statistics, and percentages in particular, can be misleading. Australia receives so few applications for asylum that a 30 per cent increase means only 1400 additional people sought asylum here last year, as compared to 2008.
If and when the government forcers men and women to fight in a war, there is going to be unrest among the people. American political views changed for some as they no longer viewed the government in the same way as they did prior to the war. I believe the Vietnam War as made the United States think about their views of war which allows them to make better choices in the future when it comes to engaging in wars. References BERGAN, D. E. (2009). The Draft Lottery and Attitudes Towards the Vietnam War.
Now, one can observe bomb shells along with the encroachment in weapons and military hardware. Vietnam War introduced a new concept of advancement that is to uncover the elements of war through media. Before the war, violations and destructions were uncommon. The Vietnam War was fought in between 1957 and 1975 on the ground in South Vietnam and bordering areas of Cambodia and Laos and in bombing runs over North Vietnam open the grounds on fire on United States (PBS, 2009). Before the Vietnam War, the media's job was to keep the American listeners and readers optimistic and panic free.
