Why College Education is Important to Me These days, a college degree is not optional if a person wishes to excel in the business world. Many employers will not even consider an applicant without a bachelor’s degree. Obtaining a college degree can provide a higher income, self-fulfillment, and more long-term opportunities. Although I agree with the reasons above, I have additional reasons I feel that a college degree is important to me. First, I hope to provide inspiration to my daughter. In my teenage years the thought of a college education seemed a very foreign and unattainable concept. I grew up poor without much hope to change my status in life. I eventually quit going to high school all together got a job and decided to do things on my own. As is common in such a scenario I surrounded myself with people that held the same opinions about education and life in general. The outcome has been almost twenty years of struggling and learning the hard way. A quote that sums this up is “In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.” My wish is that I can now lead by example and teach my daughter the value of education from an early age and that through hard work and persistence anything is achievable! I desperately hope that I am successful in imparting this to her in hopes that she will not make the same mistakes that I did. Second, it will allow me to provide a better life for my daughter. Although I have been able to provide a stable home many of the things we desire are yet to be realized. Many of our friends and relatives get opportunities to travel and engage in extracurricular activities that we often are not able to participate in. The ability to take vacations, purchase a cabin in the country, or even to be able to afford ballet classes are a few of the things that we both would like. By
