Macbeth is a tragedy involving the murder of multiple characters. Macduff physically murdered Macbeth; though Macbeth is responsible through his own actions. Macbeth believes the witches prophecies, and caves when Lady Macbeth pressures him to murder King Duncan. His own human nature, paranoia and selfishness are what leads him to his death.

The three characters that are deceiving are Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and the witches. Macbeth shows loyalty to King Duncan in the beginning of the play. Macbeth’s appearance is deceiving because later on in the play he ends up killing Duncan. Besides Macbeth, Lady Macbeth also shows her character is deceiving by planning how Duncan will be killed.
Early on the witches reveal prophecies to Macbeth suggesting his rise to power. This claim influences Macbeth’s actions throughout the play and leads to his eventual downfall. While the witches offer the idea of the supernatural, Macbeth alone made the choice to believe in it. It is his individual choice that is responsible to blame, not the supernatural itself. The witches never told Macbeth to kill; they merely stated that he was to become king.
Thou shalt be King hereafter'. They said this prophecy because the witches already knew Macbeth was going to be king, but Macbeth didn't want to wait so he had decided to kill Duncan, the current king, so therefore Macbeth would become king sooner. Macbeth himself did contribute to his downfall. If he hadn't killed Duncan to become king, the guilt and confusion would have not lead him to madness. After he killed Duncan, he thought highly of himself and nothing could stop him or get in his way.
Lady Macbeth is an evil and ruthless woman who, being aware of Macbeth’s ambitious nature decides to exploit it and manipulates him into murdering King Duncan. When Macbeth, hesitates to commit the murder, Lady Macbeth questions Macbeth’s manhood and states, “When you durst do it then you were a man,” in an attempt to appeal to Macbeth’s guilt as well as to challenge him to commit the crime. .The witches represent Macbeth’s evil ambitions and make him want to know more about the future disregarding any consequences. Macbeth was deeply influenced by the witches because they were the ones guiding him to murdering Duncan. As well as the murder of Duncan, the murder of Banquo creates guilt in Macbeth which causes him to have a supernatural occurrence. The ghost of Banquo appears during the banquet where Macbeth is going to be seated. The ghost is only visible to Macbeth.
The prophecy stated by the witches, that Macbeth would become king, prompted Macbeth to make that a reality. However, the witches never said that he would murder Duncan, or that he would become so paranoid and guilt-ridden that he would be his own undoing. Indeed, is not the point of fate that it achieves what is meant to be regardless of the path chosen? The witches also stated that Macbeth would rule, but Banquo’s descendants would rule Scotland. So, naturally, because man is a sinful creature, Macbeth sets out to destroy Banquo and his family, eliminating the possibility of Banquo’s descendants becoming kings.
Macbeth becomes inspired by what he learned from the witches. “Lesser than Macbeth, and greater,” and “not so happy, yet much happier”; Then they tell him that he will never be king but that his children will sit upon the throne. The three witches are tools in Macbeth’s actions because they are the ones who plant the seeds in his head. The witches are responsible for giving Macbeth a reason to kill the king. “If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me/ Without my stir”.
