WHO INFLEUNCED ME IN LIFE Not until now, I have never thought my life was influenced by anybody but after a deep thought and a thorough reflection of my past I have come to a conclusion that my family indeed shaped my life. I spent most of my early days in life with my family- going to school together, church and staying at home playing with my siblings. Every day was a learning one, receiving lessons from my parents, teachers, pastors and perhaps, neighbors unconsciously. In the fore front was my late mother (Inyang Davies), who despite the heavy pressure of taking care of a family of seven and pursuing her nursing career still created time to mentor us. As my dad was “always not available” due to the nature of his job, she laid the foundation of almost everything I know in life. Amongst them is the emphasis on the saying that education is light! She was instrumental to the good grades I had in my elementary school days. I could still remember her scolding me whenever I go home with bad results and praises (including gifts) when I top my class. She was a great source of inspiration to me. My mother taught me never to give up in life, a principle I still apply on every aspect of my life. Her story of growing up in a very poor family and rising above all obstacles to be a great person in life motivates me. She was 15 years when her parents were killed during the civil war in Nigeria but she still struggled to take care of her younger ones being the eldest and still paid her school fees by selling woods to food sellers. As fate will have it, she died when I was 15years, during my secondary school final examinations. Her death, though painful but at the same time a source of strength to me to work hard, very hard, to excel in life. There is no doubt that the legacy she left behind keeps fuelling me to keep moving and aiming for the best.
