During their annual trip to Grandma's, Joe and Mary Alice go down to the Coffee Pot Cafe one day to enjoy some Nehi sodas. Mary Alice befriends Vandalia Eubanks, a skinny, pale seventeen-year-old who works there... Chapter 6: "Things With Wings—1934" Grandma is at the depot when Joe and Mary Alice arrive this year, but she has not come to meet them. Instead, she is seeing somebody off. Mrs. Effie Wilcox, her "sworn enemy," is moving away because the bank has foreclosed on her house. That day at noon dinner, the children regale their grandmother with the exciting news about the killing of the notorious John Dillinger back in Chicago.
The two men are headed to New York when Tom insists they get off the train in order for Nick to "meet [his] girl." The two men proceed to a car repair garage owned by George Wilson, a "spiritless man" who is also Myrtle's husband. Tom chats briefly with Wilson about business matters. Myrtle, a sensuous, fleshy woman in her middle thirties, joins the men. Tom quietly informs her he wishes to see her and so she arranges to meet them shortly, leaving her husband under the pretense of visiting her sister in New York.
“No One’s a Mystery” is a short story written by Elizabeth Tallent. It’s about an eighteen years old girl who’s having an affair with Jack. While Jacks is driving them in his dirty pickup, they are drinking tequila and talking about their future. Jack is a cynical selfish man who doesn’t care about his appearance. He’s cheating on his wife with a teenager he has been having an affair since she was sixteen.
Essay Assignment #2- Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner In 1967 the movie Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner was released. In the film, Joey Drayton is a twenty-three-year-old who returns home from a holiday with surprising news: She is engaged. Her fiancé, Dr. John Prentice, a specialist in tropical medicine, however, is a black man. It is at this point in the movie that the audience becomes aware of the obvious controversial issue being presented: A white women marrying a black man. In the midst of the civil rights movement, this film was said to challenge the stereotypical ideas of race and gender, but after watching the film it is easy to see how filmmakers in fact played in to many of those very stereotypes they were trying to debunk ringing true the statement, “The culture most movies are amking when it comes to race…is one that still uphols, either covertly or overtly, white male supremacy”(Hooks, 75).
My favorite part of the plot was when he got played by his girlfriend C. The climax was when his girlfriend broke up with him a day before prom. D. The conclusion was a funny one because he came to the prom with a stripper and she left with his friend Section IV: Characters A. Looks: tall, dark-skinned, skinny, wavy hair.
