Topic: What being a Bahamian means to me. When asked “what is being a Bahamian?” the variety of answers you can retain is unparallel. In some cases there is no answer. Well this is because a Bahamian is unique in every facet of life. We walk, talk, dress, eat, and socialize differently. There are not many places on this earth where u can find people who will walk up to complete strangers and spark a conversation of interest; even though these interesting conversations most consist of “Bei what fall today”. To me being Bahamian is the collaboration or our history, culture, and family. This relationship not only builds but forms each Bahamian but our Bahamian nation. To begin, I believe that our history is what molded me into a Bahamian. History is the backbone of every nation, its foundation. How can you have any sense of real direction of you don’t know where you came from. Especially growing up in the Majority, knowing that my parents and grandparents had to go out every day and fight for their rights just so I would have an easier life filled with much more opportunities than they did; my forefathers who came to this beautiful nation as slaves who were worked all their life. For my benefit; people did not care the price they gave their all to bring fourth equality in the nation. Slaves revolting, emancipation, racism, discrimination, unfair pay, Burma Road Riot, Union Protests, A black political party running for the beginning of what would be a new era in our infantile country, Winning the election and now having a Majority rule and for once in our illustrious history some source of balance. Looking at this makes me proud to be a Bahamian, because I know that anything worth having is worth fighting for. With the knowledge that my ancestors fought for their freedom tells me that we are a strong people who are ready, able, and willing to do anything we put our
