What Type Of Teacher Do You Think You Are? As an English teacher I have a specific goal in mind, which is to make my students speak, talk and write in English. It is a challenge to teach students with different strengths and needs. To make my students succeed I have to group them according to their achievement, skills development, needs, interests and set specific individual and group objectives. There are different learning theories. I denote I am closer to the roots of the Cognitive School of Thought. I truly think that a meaningful learning develops approach on long-term memory. Cruickshank, D. Metcalf, K. & Jenkens, D (2009) examined the short-term memory and the long-term memory and describe that a meaningful approach is when students understand and are able to use knowledge. To acquire a meaningful approach teachers must prepare students for learning by using their short-term memory and adding new information to previous knowledge. I prepare my students before every lesson by using engaging activities to keep their attention to present the new topic. It is very important to be clear and to teach step by step and stop whenever is needed. At the end of the lesson it is crucial to let the students apply what they learned. Cruickshank, D. Metcalf, K. & Jenkens, D (2009) remark that information must be organized and connected to what they already know. To conclude, mi definition of how information can be processed to become a meaningful approach in my students´ life is by giving learners the opportunity to identify the reason of the use of English in their lives, and not only to complete a task or to fill practice book pages.
