It goes from “civilized” to “uncivilized.” These different words show how different aspects of human nature compare. Joseph knew humans had some inevitably bad characteristics, but what he had seen was much more than just anger. He witnessed major cases of abuse. The cutting off of limbs, soldiers raping the women being held hostage, people dying from disease, starvation taking over, all of this was eye-insulting. Conrad had never seen so much barbarity before.
Ethnocentrism is the way an individual look at the world from his/her own beliefs in their culture. They feel that their culture, race, or ethnic group is more significant and that their culture is more superior than any other culture of other groups. In feeling this way the individuals will judge other groups, such as their behavior, the language in which they use, religion. How it could be detrimental to society is that it could lead to false speculation about the differences in cultures. It leads to society making premature judgments about other cultures, not knowing all the facts about another culture.
He's my son! He'd rather see these no-good punks than his own mother? You scum…” Mrs. Cade. The reason for his low self-esteem and him losing his innocence by killing Bob is because he has to deal with lack of parental love. The extent of your loss of innocence also depends on the environment you are raised in.
Brooks argues that we are a “congealing pot” that tend to gravitate to like-minded, like-cultured people. He also states that there are marketing firms that collect data on where we live and what we buy. He asks us to look at our daily life and do something out of the ordinary. Although Brooks dislike of segregation is apparent, he makes references that there are some advantages of grouping together and the losses Americans would have if they were integrated. There are other losses by segregating due to religion, politics, race, class, profession and sexuality.
It also had its negative effects on Atticus, when he was called degrading names like ‘nigger lover’ and being treated badly by the townspeople for defending Tom. His children were also persecuted because of his courageous act. Boo Radley was another man in the town who suffered severely due to the demeanour of others who had superstitions and judgements made up about him causing children to harass him just because he didn't want to leave his house and lastly Dolphus Raymond who suffered emotionally just because he lived with a black and had mixed children. The racial and prejudice attitudes of the townspeople in Maycomb is the driving force behind nearly all the negative events that happen in the story which caused emotional and physical pain to many
Lester’s new behaviour and attitude towards the Behrani family is unforeseen, as at first he seemed like a very caring person who wanted to help as much as he could, but as his hatred towards the family increases, his change in morality does too. It seems as if all the things that he once cherished, have vanished because of his overwhelming and negative emotion. Additionally, Lester’s behaviour only gets worse when he thinks about killing the Behrani family. While keeping the family hostage Lester, “waved his gun in their direction and told them to keep quiet”(263).At this point in the novel Lester is a completely different man, instead of trying to protect others, he feels the need to destroy them. This all originated from his hatred toward the family giving a hard time to Kathy.
In some parts of the world people from different backgrounds are in genocide. For the way they look, act, and what they wear. Punished or tortured for the name they brand or they cross they carry, or even the book they carry. We have laws to abide by, but fanatic individuals brainwashed by evil create acts of violence that prove that the war is still here and more than real. Just because we are not in the same continent or country as them, they are still are brothers and the hate mongering and hatred acts towards them are a feeling of unhappiness scene al around the world.
In recent times there have been reports of people being bullied so bad, they have taken their own lives to escape from the constant torment. Like anyone who wears their heart on their sleeve, and is always open and honest, I have been the victim of strung-out, self-righteous bullies. My bullying came in the form a junkie who decided that I was a serious threat to him and his way of life. It’s important
(Some) people are good and some are not so good; some do bad things to other people and behave badly generally, while other people behave well and treat people well. Some people believe that we are bad because of our environment – the things that come to influence us throughout our lives, and some people believe we are the way we are because of our birth – that it is our genes that determine whether or not we will be bad people. There are three main reasons why I believe that our environment and our experiences are the main factors in determining what kind of people we are. The first reason is that inherently bad people can sometimes be born into good families, and good people can come from people who do not behave well. People can be good or bad irrespective of their family background.
Serial killers are sadistic in nature. (Norris, 1988) Some return to the scenes or graves of their victims to fantasize about their deeds. Many insert themselves in the investigation of their crimes and some enjoy taunting authorities with letters or carefully planned pieces of
