What makes a good and bad manager? Management is an art and science. The art is that making other employees still works effective by themselves even without management. Science is when the manager succeeds this art. Manager is the person responsible for planning, guiding, and supervising works of a group of other employees. Besides, the members of the group have to report to the manger frequently to make sure the manager is always monitor the work carefully and make a timely decision. The manager may have the right to hire, fire, or promote their staff. However, in a big company, the manager can not do that, they may report or recommends the higher manager to things like that. The manager has the power to change the works of the employees if they think it is sensible and necessary. The key of successful managers are known as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. These four functions are a process and the manager has to do step by step. The first function is planning. In this step, the manager will determine a goal of the organization. Besides, the manager will build an overall plan to implement the goal. For example, Mr. Boss is working as a sales manager. He has a goal of increasing sales to $10.000 on April, 2013. He needs to plan which work will make sales increase like promote advertising and improve quality’s customer services. The second function is organizing. In this step, Mr. Boss needs to ascertain company’s structure and assign a task to each employee. Moreover, he will direct for his employees how to do the task and combine departments together. The third of the managerial function is leading. A manager should determine his/her leadership style such as an autocratic leader, a democratic leader, or a quiet leader, etc. Furthermore, Mr. Boss should invest in improving the relationship between him and his employees.
