Muhammad Bangash 2/24/14 3A What Makes a Good Leader (EOC) Character Count: 2168 (with spaces) Do you know what makes a good leader? Does he or she need to show how powerful and aggressive they are? An outstanding leader must have the qualities of believing in the goal they are trying to attain and showing compassion towards people, including ones who are against you. A leader must have a firm belief in his or hers objective. Just like a religious prophet, a professional coach, and parents, they must devout their lives to the main purpose of their roles. Many of these types of leaders have stressed the importance for reaching one’s objective by putting all the effort they have. For example, Vince Lombardi, a football coach, had stated that “the price of success is hard work, determination for the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the asset to ourselves to the task at hand.” In addition, Seneca reveals that “to the person who does not know where he wants to go there is no favorable wind.” A dignitary must be firm and fully aware of their purpose. He or she must be mindful of all challenges and obstacles to provide the utmost determination. Therefore, what a leader should emphasize on is the paramount belief in their goal. Displaying sympathy towards people, as well as others opposing you is an excellent quality and benefit. For example, Marcus Aurelius shows that “Because your own strength is unequal to the task, do not assume that it is beyond the powers of man; but if anything is within the powers and province of man, believe that it is within your own compass also.” Leaders require others to support them in the time of hardships when facing a great obstacle against other people.
