Christmas in El Salvador is celebrated to commemorate the birth of baby Jesus. The majority of the country’s religion is Roman Catholic. The church plays an important part for El Salvador in the holidays. On Christmas Eve, they go to Misa de Galo “Rooster’s Mass” in Spanish. The families there have fun going to the special event in church.
Everything is starting to go back to the way that there supposed to be. Melinda is more happier, and her and heather have become very close like as though they were best friends. There is other images of trees that Melinda has had. Like when Melinda and her family had set up the Christmas tree around Christmas time. When she was younger, her and her family would sit around the Christmas tree and drink hot chocolate.
I watched Star Wars with my brother -Dave- for the first time one Christmas and from then on we were both hooked. Star Wars on telly at Christmas became our tradition. It was the only thing that was predictable and good; amongst the instability of our family home. It enabled us to escape into our imaginations and to dream about ‘how great life would be’, if the imagination became a reality. Even thinking about Star Wars
Every year I was involved in Dream Makers where we bought toys for underprivileged kids during Christmas. During Thanksgiving I collected and sorted food for Food for Families. The biggest event that most of the community was involved in would have been Relay for Life; everyone would join together as a community and volunteer. Here at Texas A&M I am not currently involved. I am researching organizations that I would like to join next semester and plan on joining at least
Colten Barrett Comp II 9/5/2012 Dr. Smith Thanksgiving Dinner Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with feasting, joy, bonding and memories. My family along with millions of other American families every year, come together to celebrate everything that we have been grateful for throughout the year. We celebrate by feasting on some of our most savored dishes; some dishes happen to be a family tradition and are served at every Thanksgiving. Every year my family celebrates Thanksgiving at my grandma and grandpa’s house. By the time every one gets to Grandma’s house, the house is already filling up with fabulous smells of pie, meat, and other wonderful foods and to top it off the smell of fresh cut grass blowing in for the opened windows throughout the house.
People have the ritual of watching football, having dinner and family gatherings. Everyone has its customs on Thanksgiving. Some people see, Thanksgiving as a long weekend and other as a day of going to church and giving gratitude. For others it is a day to gather with relatives and have a big meal. My Thanksgiving ritual is of gathering together with family giving thanks, feasting on a great meal, having fun, and watching television shows.
Each band wears different colors and features cheerleaders. Fiesta Catracha takes place this same day: typical Honduran foods such as beans, tamales, baleadas, cassava with chicharron, and tortillas are offered. On Christmas Eve, the people reunite with their families and close friends to have dinner, then give out presents at midnight. In some cities fireworks are seen and heard at midnight. On New Year's Eve there is food and "cohetes", fireworks and festivities.
Our family is all dressed up, and I can smell the evening’s food rooms away and hear the ending sounds of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on the TV downstairs. We seem like a classic, cookie-cutter family. And then the holiday really begins. My grandma is usually the first to arrive, complete with her leopard-print duffle bag she carried everywhere with her. After her I hear the front door open again and know that, from this point on, the house won’t have another moment of silence.
Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is a celebration of life, a festival of gratitude! In my home, Thanksgiving is a precious time when my family gets together and the women share the kitchen cooking and bonding over an extravagant meal. The men gather together in the den and connect on a deeper level over a spirited football game, cheering and cursing at the television screen. The children play games and run through the house. Thanksgiving is a time when the house can come truly alive.
The most important times with my family are the holidays and special occasions spent together as a group. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and great-grandparents all gather together at one of our homes in celebration of Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, the new year, birthdays, and graduations. We always have an abundance of dishes steaming with decadent food, such as my grandmom’s homemade macaroni and cheese. My mom usually fixes her sweet party punch: a mixture of Hawaiian punch, sprite, and sherbet. We gather around, eating, opening gifts, talking and laughing.
