What is Prose Poems? In the literature world you have different ways that a poet can express their thoughts or feelings. Poems can reflect a surreal, metaphysical bent and others can offer grimly realistic portraits of violence and despair (PF), images like Czeslaw Milosz, Charles Simic or Semezdin Mehmedinovich. One type of poetry is a prose poem that arranges words so that even if we are reading silently, inside we feel there could be no other way of putting them together. “There are two types of prose poem – narrative and expository. A narrative text defines something that is narrated such as a story and expository text is a non-fiction material that provides description, analysis or classification.” (Prose) The Prose poem can appeal to distinctly different poets due to its variety of rhythm and its close resemblance to the patterns of everyday speech. With Semezdin Mehmedinovich , his poems are narrative prose poems however, the “ALIFAKOVA” I would consider being actual poetry because of the feel and the way it reades. The “Essay” (SM), poem does not follow the traditional rhythmic structure but does provide the proper grammatical structure. In this poem Mehmedinovich is describing an average day through the eyes of the writer. For example, “plane gleaming”, “bluish dusk”, “Wires spark”, “boy looking”, “river can dry up”, “freckles On my mother’s face”, are all symbolizing to the reader that God is all around. In the “Stranger”, the poem omits using punctuation but still is an easy read. Examples are “into the darkness of the grave -----”, “three remain ----”, “home, I, stranger ---”. In this poem Mehmedinovich is talking about death for a stranger, in an unfamiliar place that was once home. Throughout the sentence the use of dashes is providing an interruption in between thoughts which is providing emphasize on the words. However, the
