The more they practice and the more teachers and parents instill this in their minds, the better they will become. Perfect practice, makes perfect. Most people would probably have trouble with trying to remember how they learned to read. I would have to say that I am a person who loves to read and I think that is it really an amazing thing. Also, I am someone who is involved in education and research and I think that it is amazing how learning to read is said to be a talent that it potentially impossible.
Those parents have to stay vigorously involved in schooling their kids. Surely the obligation to ensure our nation’s future must be shared also by those who don’t have children in the public schools. Those people who should take an interest in the students that will eventually be stepping into the workforce. They should be developing work-study groups, internships and job placement banks that they can recruit and develop to be successful. Evidently, the tasks of educating our children nowadays are a lot more difficult than simple examinations and easy solutions.
The teacher provided physical and mental safety from insult and diminishment. Mike Rose emphasized that a good environment actually would help students do better, “And there was safety to take risks, to push beyond what you can comfortably do at the present, ‘coaxing out thinking along,’ as one of Steve Gilbert’s student put it, bringing out our best interpretive abilities” (46). These democratic classrooms also showed the amazing respect of people toward another, especially toward students of different ethnicities. They respected each other’s background, their languages, and history. They helped one another study and made them feel comfortable.
While this book has some weaknesses in helping you select the direction you should go in, it is superb in helping you pursue your goals once they are set. The early chapters of the book focused on creating awareness to the idea that being truly successfully results from choosing a job that sparks passion, risk, and excitement in life. Then when I studied and got a good grade I was like “wow, I can do this” and felt a beam of confidence that I could do it for other classes as well. Adapting to the schoolwork is a big part of having confidence in the classroom because you understand what is being taught. Gatto said “schools are establish fixed habits of relation to authority. This of course, precludes critical judgement completely.”(152). Gatto is saying that schooling is made for kids to adapt to; it has adaptive qualities, therefore there is a chance for everyone to succeed if they really want to, but it takes away from any individual thinking.
I would like to show my family that education is very important, because it doesn't only affect you but everyone that is surrounded by you. I would like to set an example for my little sister, and younger cousins, that anything is possible, and that your education sets a path for your future that if you have a bright future you can have a beautiful life. I would also like God to be proud of me as well. Bishop Noll Institute offers a challenging academic environment, I clearly see it in the upperclassmen’s attitudes and the standards that they set for me as a freshman this year. The more I know the better opportunities will come my way in the future.
College students have short-term and long-term goals that they desire to achieve. Achieving a goal at any level would be a great accomplishment of mine. My objective is to work hard at improving my writing skills, having better study skills, and becoming an enhanced student overall. Once I graduate from GCU; I will have a higher level of communication skills, and confidence to become professional and skilled in all that I achieve. A college degree in Elementary Education is essential to me because I want to teach others the value of fun, learning, and the capability to be involved in exciting adventures throughout life.
It was said that one ‘solution’ to the ‘problem’ of inequity was to ‘educate the parents’ (Thomson, P 2002, p. 3) and encourage them to ‘supervise’ their children whilst doing homework. This suggests that with the parent’s encouragement and reinforcement towards the child, they are more likely to want to succeed and feel they have the right to succeed, instead of there being a boundary between the advantaged and disadvantaged children. The parents of both Vicki and Thanh want the best for their children, to graduate and achieve a ‘university’ (Thomson, P 2002, p.2) degree. However Vicki is more likely to succeed because of her parent’s educational background and will be able to provide the support that she needs going through school, whereas Thanh will have to find other sources for educational help because his parents do not have the knowledge that he
If parents take much time at work for example the time spent by Chris in Iraq, their children may end up being poor performers in school which will impact negatively on their lives in the future. So they need to be able to attend to their work and to children too because they need support both in education and in the social perspective of growth.
