What has the Navy ever done for us? In the past, the Navy has done a lot for Britain and the United Kingdom. Nowadays, it can be said that the Navy is less needed because of the high increase in air travel and such, but many people still consider our Navy to be the best in the world. The Navy was first and foremost the sea army, protecting the country from the enemy (other countries). It did this by travelling all of the seas and fighting and other ships that threaten them. Not only did this stop the enemy getting to our land, but by defeating lots of ships and countries, it showed Britain’s status and how much power we had. The Navy also helped secure trade routes. Because it had so much power of the seas and could dominate a vast amount of docks and lands, it made it very easy for England to do business with other countries. Also, because of our vast numbers, it was very easy to dominate docks and countries ports. This made it very difficult for Navies to leave and practice their plans, also it delayed them when they needed to attack or battle. This gave Britain a lot of control over other Navies and they had plenty of time to plan their attacks whist they kept the enemy at bay. Another small thing the British Navy helped in doing was mapping the seas. This gave them an edge in navigation and they could have a good guess at enemy routes, making their attack plan more effective. All in all, the British Navy has done a lot for us, small major things like fighting our battles, to smaller things, like making more detailed maps. It is no wonder why at one point they were such a big part in our History and that they have helped shape Britain into the way it is
