The elderly clients I care for generally have ill health, the illnesses they suffer from can be physical and mental. Physical illness ranges from minor life limiting illness like obesity, to illness that prevents clients from leaving their bed, and are cared for in bed. Mental health illness ranges from minor confusion to extreme paranoia and various levels of dementia. The diverse needs of my client group mean that I have to be aware of individual needs every time I am work and have to develop my own ways of communicating with clients , these ways have to be assessed on every shift as the nature of the client group means the client will have good days and bad days. So although I may have individual ways of communicating they have to be reassessed every shift to ensure they are still relevant.
There are many people in our world today who suffer from psychological disorders. A psychological disorder is a pattern of behavioral or psychological symptoms that causes significant personal distress, impairs the ability to function in one or more important areas if life, or both (DSM-IV-TR, 2000). When someone is suffering from a psychological disorder, they will usually seek out treatment. There are many different treatments or therapeutic interventions available that are all effective in their own ways. One of the therapies that are well known to treat psychological disorders is called the biomedical therapies, or medical treatments (Hockenbury).
Risk assessments are also designed to manage and identify areas of concern, either to the patient or health professional’s involved in the care of the patient. Areas of risk assessment may include suicide or self harm, absconding, aggression or violence, substance use, vulnerabilities and neglect, non adherence or compliance. These areas of assessment may include past risk and current risk factors (Edward, Munro, Robins & Welch, 2011). Risk assessment of the patient is important but also risk towards others. Patients with paranoid schizophrenia are more opportunistic in behaving aggressively or violently towards co-patients and/or staff, which is why implementation of such assessment tools have been put in place (Langan, 2008).

There are many other psychological problems that are faced by combat personnel; these and others will be further explored for more in depth review. Combat stress is a common response to the mental and emotional effort service members exercise when facing tough and dangerous situations.
There are many theories of what causes stress and techniques that can be employed to try and lessen the effects of stress. Stress has become an epidemic that businesses have to cope with daily in order to maintain their employee health and morale. “Occupational stress has been recognized as a major health issue for modern work organizations. Conditions of the workplace have been shown to lead to negative emotional reactions, physical health problems in both the short term and the long term and counterproductive behavior at work” (Spector, 2002).

What is stressful for one person may be pleasurable or have little effect on them and we all react to stress differently.
