My mother was always a single mother, so just like space, as I was growing up, money was tight. But my mother never let that hold back my siblings and me from getting our education and other goals she set for us. She knew we could do things that we believed we couldn’t possibly do, so she always encouraged us to be our best, no matter whatever or whoever tried to bring us down. The people that are in my life today have had a huge impact on the person who I’ve grown to be. My family, but especially my mother has molded me with their standards and expectations of me, and for them I am thankful.
In the mother’s eye’s, in the photograph, you see the pain hardship and distress that she has clearly overcome. Ma Joad is similar in the fact that she herself does not show how much hurting pain and suffering she overcomes because she believes it will break the family’s backbone leaving everyone to fend for themselves. Both women are inspirational figures in life. They both go on to show that no matter what the situation is with hope anything is
I think Ismene changed her mid because Antigone is her sister and you always stand up for family. She didn’t want to commit the crime because she was trying to talk Antigone out of doing the crime. In the end Ismene is the only one who lives and has a kind of guilt free life. She may not have family left besides Creon but at least she tried to save them. I think out all the characters she made the smarter choices and she thought about the consequences.
Judy says she will remain involved in Greenleaf Elementary, whether it is a teacher, a principal, or apart or administration. She says her goals for the Elementary school will never be reached because “effective teachers are never satisfied with their success.” However, Judy does feel successful because she knows that she has now provided students with limitless tools to success on tests and in
Like her I had to somewhat grow up without a father figure and become the “mom” of the household. She is definitely a character I can relate to. I find Katniss very unselfish because when the draw to chose the players for the Games came around, she took her sisters place to participate. I consider myself unselfish because I would go out of my way to
Then I read the part of Welty’s story where Phoenix has to cross the creek and she said “Now comes the trial”. (Welty, A Worn Path, 1941) For me, the trial in my journey will be actually sending our girls to school. Sure it’s fun to talk about, but actually switching from being with my girls every waking hour to having them gone eight hours a day will be a huge adjustment and I imagine, a very hard thing to do. Yet just as Phoenix crossed the creek to continue her journey, so I will get through my trial to keep on. What I have come to realize from this though, is that is isn’t the destination that is so important.
“I know you want me to stay, Mom, but I want to cheer and go to my old high school. All of my friends are there.” “I know baby, this is just so hard for me.” Then she began to cry hard. We held each other for the longest time. I felt my back become wet from the tears she shed. That night, we talked more than we had in such a long time.

In Kate Chopin’s The Awakening, Edna’s suicide allows her to escape the oppression of Creole culture. During the time period of the novel a woman was expected to remain submissive at all times. Society and her husband placed these expectations on a woman and she was expected to give her life to her family and do everything in her power to please them. Her children must be her utmost pride and joy and her husband must be the center of her universe, but for Edna this was not the case. Edna did not believe that one must give oneself up for the satisfaction of their family; she believed that every woman should be in control of the decisions she makes.
It is important to point out that Esme was a very independent person and behaved differently from other girls her age. She was outgoing and adventurous and she never conformed to the way society expected young girls at her age to act. These expectations included being obedient and reserved. It was also expected that a girl would be married off at a young age, start a family, raise the children, and work around the house. They were not encouraged to continue their education.
