Were the big three of Versailles very stupid men? Introduction After the First World War, many countries were left behind as losers. And you can’t just leave the losing countries behind and ignore them. You have to decide if they have to be punished or do they have to give away land or colonies that they own? For sure it is hard to decide something like this smoothly, after all the damage and death that happened during the war. And at the other hand you have to keep track of the equality so all the countries can support their best interests. The treaty of Versailles that was called in after World War I is a good example for this critical scenario. The treaty of Versailles In 1919 representatives from 32 countries made their way to Versailles in France to decide what should happen to the losing countries. In this case we are talking about Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey and Germany. When the representatives of all 32 countries arrived at Versailles, the situation was fraught. The reason for that was the debarment of all the five losing countries. That basically means that they had to accept whatever was decided by the conference. Russia was left out as well for the reason that they had a revolution in 1917 and the new government reconciled with Germany. This act was seen as disrespectful by the victorious nations. Although many countries where represented at the treat, all the mentionable decisions where made by the big three of Versailles. What the big three wanted The big three were Woodrow Wilson for the U.S.A., Georges Clemenceau representing France and David Lloyd George of Britain. From now on I will refer to them as the big three. Basically all big three were very successful and well educated men who had a lot of experience in making important political decisions.
