Voltage and Current monitoring in an academic institutions are very useful to monitor how much load can be used for a certain equipments in administrative offices or laboratories to cope with the present needs of its constituents. These needs can range from employing new computer units, copying devices, motors for laboratories and the like. Unfortunately, electrical systems in these academic institutions could be as old as its founding days and could be unfit for its present electrical demands. This condition can lead to overloading and presence of faults in the power lines which can interrupt regular activities in schools, such as, classes, laboratories, programs, document processing, among many others. This fact opens floodgates to numerous possible improvements which can be integrated to the present electrical systems in these institutions. But for such improvements to progress, studies which utilize data of the actual behavior of the present system load-flow is necessary.
A device that monitor the voltage and current of a three-phase system and as well as a logger of these monitored values is connected to a wireless device which shows the data in real-time. There are two ways that this data can be collected, first is using a Bluetooth device and a backup SD card is needed if some power failures in the device occur.
This device will be useful in schools such as MSU-IIT for monitoring power usage of the different colleges for possible evaluation purposes.
