The mix of immigrant and different ethnicity working together created what makes Hawaii so diverse and unique today. Immigration has been and continues to be a great importance to Hawaii’s social, economic, and political life. At the time the economy of Hawaii was bombing from the profit of goods from the plantations, with the increase of profit they need more workers to work. Plantations would grow rapidly and to speed up the process of harvesting crops and good, with the low amount of people on Hawaii the plantation owner sought for new workers that would work for lower pay, this lead them to go for foreigners. When Hawaiian plantations began to increase, there was a dyer need in labor force needed to be imported.
The Old Poor Law of 1834 was reformed because it could not cope due to the large numbers of people claiming poor relief. This was due to population rise, commercialisation of farming which left people with no jobs, decline of agricultural crafts, harvest failures, food shortages due to war, higher food prices and change in attitude to claiming social welfare as there was no stigma attached to being poor anymore. This led to different measures such as the introduction of the Speenhamland system of 1795. Having investigated the reasons for the reformation of the Poor Law, we will now focus on the reasons that led to the reform. There were six main reasons that led to the old Poor Law Reform to easily pass which were: a willing government, Tories were a minority, Climate change, objectors were not listened to, and a Report based on evidence collected by the commission of enquiry.
With the lack of soldiers, it would be easier to invade Rome, which could’ve led to the decline of the Empire. This proves that internal decay was one of the major causes for the end of Rome. Document 6 shows the invasions of Barbarians in 476 on the Roman Empire. This demonstrates that the government and military were becoming weaker to the point where they weren’t strong enough to protect the empire from invasions. The government could not control all these invasions, so this was another component that helped the fall of the Roman Empire.
Why Europe? Anan Patel 12/16/13 The Europeans were the first people to explore and conquer the rest of the world. But, before they explored the world the Chinese had started this voyage project also, but they eventually receded from this because they were looking to focus more on domestic matters (DOC 2, 3, 4, and 5). The reason why Europe succeeded and the others didn’t because Europe already had advantages in society because of the plant and animal domestication, also they had enough competition between the different European countries to go out on voyages to look for more (DOC 1, 6, 7, 9) . On the other hand, the other countries weren’t able to succeed because they conquered by Europeans or their population died out from diseases or plagues (DOC 4, 5, 8).
Although the Titanic is known for carrying the rich and famous, the Ship actually had several purposes to carry British and US mail and to carry general cargo and frozen meat since at that time Europe could not produce enough livestock. It shows us that at this time people wanted to try and develop new things and systems to try to enhance and create better livelihood. People really thought that Titanic was going to be the unsinkable ship due to the fact that it was advertised everywhere that the Titanic was the place to be. It was also a massive development in technology and people weren’t really used to things like this. On the 2nd April 1912 the Titanic set off on its great voyage to America it was on the water for 4 days before hitting an iceberg and sinking 2hours and 40 minutes later.
This effected the creation of the constitution later on because it made a difficult task even more difficult. Despite the weather, Philadelphia was considered a struggling, undeveloped environment. However, the population rate increased due to immigration and high birth rates from colonial families. Philadelphia’s dependable food and fertile land brought many immigrants Rovetto 2 to the central colonies. Eventually, a majority of the population consisted of multi-cultural settlers.
Although at the time of the large influx of immigrants the farmers did experience a period of posterity because of the increased demand for food, the rural population opposed the immigrants because of their nativist views that the immigrants are ruining the American culture. These conflicts between “true Americans” and immigrants sparked social reform because they rural population depended on the cities as their seaports, and the urban population depended on the countryside because it was their main access to
Albert Einstein Professor Lauer History GHS 203-OL By Joseph Babaev Immigration to the United States by many different countries in particular Europe Asia and Africa, was very common starting from the 1600 and even until this very day. Immigrants sought out to better their lives and establish themselves a home of peace and to find themselves a government that enables them freedom of religion and freedom of speech. While dreaming about leaving their countries was easy traveling on the other hand to the United States was one of the hardest tasks. Transportation was limited and very expensive so many decided to fall under the rule of a master which is known as Indentured servitude. It was the practice of immigrants in that time to contract to work for a fixed period of time, typically three to seven years, in exchange for transportation, food, clothing, lodging and other necessities.
Today, Australia has been built for those who have been looking forwards a better life. Since 1930s, refugees have been coming to this country. However, ‘The white Australia’ has dominated the immigration policy until WWII, as people worried about being invaded by Japanese, the catch cry of ‘populate or perish’ was born. As the immigrants from UK and its colonies could not be recruited fast enough to supply the demand, Australia became increasingly aware of those in the refugee camp. Today, we get 1500 refugees from Africa, 1500 from Middle East and 3000 from Asia every year.
Even though immigrating illegally to America might be considered wrong and a crime by some American people sometimes it’s necessary. In Miranda Hunter’s book Latino Americans and Immigration Laws “In 1900 an estimated 400,000 to 550,000 immigrated and were living throughout the America, due to economic conditions in Mexico which were bad due to the revolution.”(Hunter 38). The reason for them leaving Mexico was because they wanted a better life and America would let them have a chance at that with a better economy and a better shot to make more money, but also to escape the war and not be killed or have a loved one killed. Mrs. Hunter also states “That after the Mexican-American war ended the Mexicans that lived in what had just turned into United States territory were granted American citizenship, but most Mexicans didn’t speak any English and were only allowed to be on certain land which was designated to them by the U.S. government”(Hunter 36). So even though they were granted citizenship they were not really considered American citizens.
