From an environmental perspective the Amazon is negatively affected from the burning of the trees which is polluting the biggest rainforest in the world with Carbon dioxide (Co2). Also, a lot of nutrients are being lost from deforestation and high quality soil is being wasted. Desertification is slowly happening in the Amazon and other rainforests. If deforestation continues the rainforests will start to lose bodies of water, as well as vegetation and wildlife. There are many problems that the rainforest biome encounters.
Effects of Poaching in Africa Poaching is a worldwide catastrophe that not only affects the animals being poached but also the environment and the people around them. Poaching is the illegal over-exploitation of animals and the illegal trading and selling of them wither it be killing them for a part or selling them whole. Africa for example is a continent in which its animals and people that have been strongly affected by poaching. Poaching has deeply affected Africa by changing its economy, the biodiversity of its animals and morphed by CITES reaction to help prevent it. All throughout Africa the economy is slowly and rapidly by the effects of poaching.
Desertification is spreading and water supplies are decreasing at an a rate faster than nature can replace it. This begs the question as to why they have not put into place restrictions and plans to save the ever deteriorating environment. In addition to environmental decline the economic well being of the country leaves much to be desired. The World Bank and other such agencies have taken fiscal responsibilities away from the states as well as cutting expenditures on government payrolls, health care, education and other such public services. Unfunding these public services creates and propels the poor situation that these countries are in.
Assignment 2 Environmental Sustainability Practices Introduction This report is to summarize the similarity as well as difference between the environmental sustainability practices in United States and China. Compare and Contrast Practices in China It is no secret that China faces serious environmental challenges. The combination of rapidly growing population and lack of viable communication between states and local communities have produced difficult situations. Many argue, from Malthusians terms that overpopulation is the simple answer to a host of problems. Not only that, the distribution of resources across social classes of the populations would also result in the abandonment of many rural communities and establishment of inefficient and harmful method of resource consumption.
As a result of Modernism, the survival of the Congo Rainforest in Africa is at risk; its existence in the future has become threatened. The philosophy behind modernism causes global interconnectedness through economic, environmental, political and cultural processes. Modernism can be seen as a problem in today’s society. Modernism is the reason why global logging industries have been devastating the Congo’s Rainforest for many years in attempts to provide or meet the high demands of the global community. Logging industries are threatening not only the ecology of the Congo’s Rainforest but also the lives of those who live in or surrounding the area.
Deforestation In Thailand Proposal Large areas of the world’s forest are being destroyed as you read this sentence. Volcanoes are erupting, floods are flooding and fires are burning; but with these occurrences the forest will emerge again to become what it once was. Unfortunately this is not the major reason that the forest are being depleted, Deforestation, the permanent loss of forestland, caused by humans is the main cause. With natural disasters the land is left to replenish itself but with deforestation the land becomes un-sustainable to forest life. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) “estimates that the annual rate of deforestation is about 1.3 million square km per decade, with the main deforestation occurring in the tropics where a wide variety of forest exist”.
Physical factors affecting fresh water supply in Africa The availability of and access to freshwater is an important determinant of patterns of economic growth and social development. This is particularly the case in Africa where most people live in rural areas and are still heavily dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. Only 2% of the worlds water supply is fresh. Of that 2%, almost 70% is snow and ice, 30% is groundwater, less than 0.5% is surface water (lakes, rivers, etc) and less than 0.05% is in the atmosphere. Climate change: Fresh water is becoming increasing scarce in the future partly due to climate change.
Some countries feel insecure about water. Discuss Water is an incredibly important resource in the world as we all need it to sustain life. Not only is it a necessity for us, but there is many other uses of the resource such as agriculture, irrigation, industry and hygiene. Due to this, all countries need water and conflicts can arise, leading to insecurity. Some countries, such as Ethiopia and Kenya, suffer from water scarcity meaning there is a major lack of rainfall and physical factors, such as climate, mean water supply is extremely low.
[78][79] This means that the footprint of human consumption is extracting more natural resources than can be replenished by ecosystems around the world. The current resource-intensive lifestyle of people in the developed world is not sustainable, but the toll on the environment from poverty and rapid population growth is not sustainable either Environmental sociology is the study of human interactions with the natural environment, typically emphasizing human dimensions of environmental problems, social impacts of those problems, and efforts to resolve them. As with other subfields of sociology, scholarship in environmental sociology may be at one or multiple levels of analysis, from global (e.g. world-systems) to local, societal to individual. Attention is paid also to the processes by which environmental problems become defined and known to humans.
This combination makes waters toxic to crayfish, clams, fish, and other aquatic animals. It also affects the food sources of herbivores and insects. How does acid rain affect the environment? Acid rain has a hand in global warming as well which is rapidly changing climates around the world. With the climate changes many plants and animals are having to relocate or are dying because they are not fit for the changes in their surroundings.
