Walt Whitman "I Hear America Singing" is a short poem written in free verse. Walt Whitman practically invented free verse. He consists of no rhyme scheme of his rhythm. He had a unique way with words. His free verse style was not accepted by other authors. He is still liked today for his work. "I Hear America Singing" is example of his different techniques. "I Hear America Singing”, is to make the reader see a country of people working for the better for mankind. Those people come together as part of the society developing. The free Verse in the poem makes the poems unique compared to the other authors in his time, but also it wasn’t wanted in his time. That’s what makes his poems so famous today. The content making the reader think of a country of greatness gives them a good picture of life. That makes the reader like the content and the poem much more. That is the reason of Whitman’s success. Today Walt Whitman is like today for his form and content in poems. This is awkward because back then he wasn’t liked, but today he is liked. That seems to be a great pattern for all the famous authors in history. If that is a true pattern, Why not do it today authors? Whitman had made great success in life, but after death. Emily Dickinson “Because I Could Not Stop for Death” tells Emily Dickinson’s acceptance of death. It is surprising that she tells the experience as being no more frightening than receiving a gentleman caller. This poem is written in 5 stanzas with a traditional meter. Yet not so unique, but it worked. The overall theme of the poem seems to be that death is not to be feared because it is a part of the cycle of life. Her view of death is also reflects her personality and religious beliefs. She always wanted to dwell on loneliness and death. This form of poem as traditional keeps it normal to the readers.
