Case Study – Walmart 1. I do believe that Walmart is or has been doing enough to become more sustainable. Walmart is one of the most powerful companies throughout the globe. Walmart’s business practices are scrutinized thoroughly in which includes the relationships with employees, suppliers and consumers. The fact that Walmart has not only stayed around but has continued to grow over the years has been its ability to adapt to all changes in times. This includes the environment and all the relationships the Walmart has built with. The goals for Walmart are to reduce greenhouse gases at stores, clubs and distribution centers worldwide by 20 percent. The prototype that has been designed is 25 to 30 percent more efficient and developing and installing innovative energy-efficient technology into stores. Nowadays, Walmart is working on four main green areas such as waste improvement and recycling, natural resources, energy and social/community impact. It’s long-term goals are to be supplied 100 percent by renewable energy, create zero waste and carry products that sustain the environment and its resources. 2. Walmart has faced several problems in the past. For instance, the way they treat their employees, their workplace condition, and many other ethical issues. However, the company has made several changes within their organization to make the changes become positive in order to correct these issues. In 2006, Walmart raised pay tied to performance in about 1/3 of its stores. The company also improved its health benefits package by offering lower deductibles and implementing a generic prescription plan estimated to save 25 million of employees. Walmart has also fought in several class-action suits claiming that they are not fair to women in the company and they do not allow women to be promoted.
