1. What are the ethical issues associated with Wal-Mart’s extensive sourcing of low-cost products from China? Answer: - Wal-Mart as the world’s largest retailer finds itself in very curious situation in China because of some of the reasons like restrictions from the government of China due to which it was not able to directly operate there in China as a retailer. Hence due to such reasons, Wal-Mart’s strategy needs to be developed what Greg Foran, Wal-Mart China’s president and chief executive officer calls business meeting for setup a new business to business and cash & carry operation in China. Along with these, Wal-Mart China is also playing a leading role in developing a huge amount of modern supply chains in China, which has proved as a very beneficial for the China and also Wal-Mart is one of the leading purchaser of goods in China which is considered as a positive point for china’s economy. Wal-Mart China is promoting economical growth of China in the expense of US. In other words, Wal-Mart is killing manufacturing field of its home country as it is buying most of its goods from China instead of China. Most of the goods purchased from China’s market are either ban, or have health issues. Products make in China like Viagra which is totally fake, or are toys which are lead painted, toxic cream, poisoned foods have entered into the global market. Even due to such things about the goods purchased from market of China, Wal-Mart is still outsourcing these products in the global market. 2. Based on your experience, does Wal-Mart sacrifice product quality in order to offer customers low prices¾always? In order to provide products at low price, Wal-Mart has sacrificed product quality.
