At the time I was not really sure because I was afraid of not making the team. So when I got to the tenth grade I decided to try out for the junior varsity basketball team. Making the basketball team was a big obstacle in my life that I had to overcome. Before tryouts began, the coach recommended I go to workouts to get in shape. Basketball workouts lasted about two weeks.
As a volleyball player, I was constantly working on getting stronger. Sometimes it would take days or even weeks to strengthen the skills I felt needed to be worked on in order make myself and my team better. Even though I may not have been able to ace a ball or spike it in the beginning or had a hard time assisting my teammates, I knew that if I didn’t give up, I would eventually achieve my goal. As I continued to play during my high school years, I ended up having to quit playing my senior year since I had become very sick and was not physically able to play. There were many games and practices that I tried to play, and I was constantly going against my body and making myself worse rather than better.
“Before today, we’ve been playing Emily sort of out of her usual position to fill the spots we needed with our injuries. But Emily is so versatile that you can play her in a number of different positions and she will do whatever you need,” said Coach Stone. “We needed her to score. Her first goal showed a lot of skill and the second showcased her maturity in her younger years to be as composed as she was with that finish.” Together, both Cubbage and Conway set marks of their own as rookies by recording individual firsts – first multi-scoring game and first-career shutout,
21945048 The Writing Process, Part 2 1. There are many different sports in today’s society but my favorite is all-star cheerleading. Being an all-star cheerleader has taught me so many things, it’s my hobby and passion. It is sad how under recognized it is as a sport but that doesn’t make my love for it decrease. Cheerleading is all about competition, teamwork, and dedication and I think that’s why it’s my favorite sport.
We teach commitment by first showing them what we as coaches are willing to do. This would include things during the season as well as during the offseason activities. We try to make them understand that making a commitment is essential to success in life. I also try to gauge each athlete’s commitment level by asking them questions about what sacrifices they are willing to make to reach their goals. Offering them off-season activities to improve their skills also shows them that to succeed it is important to work a little harder than
I know I will be capable of organizing the formations of our squad and organizing the stunts that will be used. I am confident in our upcoming squad; I know that they are too, so I will have to manage what goes on. Although stunting is an important part of cheerleading, it can be dangerous and should be taking seriously, so I will have to be able to stand
State Basketball Finals Allie Warren ENGL – 101 Gail Fox, Instructor University of Indianapolis [September 8, 2013] “My girls never quit, and I’m just as pleased that they continued to play hard throughout.” This is a quote from Brownstown Central High School’s varsity girls’ basketball coach, Karla Rieckers. Coach Rieckers has been coaching basketball for 19 years, but has only been the head coach at Brownstown Central for the past six years. Before she started coaching at Brownstown, the girls’ basketball team was not necessarily getting the support from the community, that it should have been receiving. When having this kind of backing from the public, we didn’t have the faith in ourselves that we could achieve amazing goals.
I could not help but wonder if I had helped these girls truly be the best players they could be or if their hopes would be crushed by embarrassment on the field and a large margin of defeat. Before the game, I took them to the end zone for a quick pep talk to remind them of the time and hard work they had given to this team. We broke out of the huddle and the game began. We scored on our first possession and never looked back from that point. The girls were executing every play to perfection.
I am a junior here at Oswego and I played volleyball last year for the 2010 season. I think it needs to be brought to the attention how some of us were treated during pre-season this year. Since we were given a new coach this season I went into tryout with an open mind and excited to be given a new opportunity to play volleyball. Since we were unaware that we needed to get physicals on our own, pre-season was moved to Friday. This gave me only 3 days to prove to coach that I deserve a spot on the roster.
When I first arrived at Keuka College, I had my mind set on two things, playing volleyball on the varsity team and maintaining high grades. Coming to Keuka College, I knew that having minimal background knowledge of the East coast and the American culture would contribute as disadvantages in adjusting immediately. However, after being away from home for the first four weeks of school, I started to realize one of the biggest challenges I had to overcome was living by myself and not having my parents around on a daily basis. I had a difficult time believing that this was the biggest challenge I had to overcome since I felt very opportunistic about the new opportunities that were ahead. I started to realize how many bad habits I have picked up
