Assignment 4: Vision at Mentor Graphics Dr. Bobby Barrett HRM: 560: Managing Organizational Change Christi Griffin February 27, 2013 An organization’s vision is the preferred future, state, or ideal state in which the company plans to go. It is the direction the organization must encompass and what the expected result will be when the reach their vision (McConnell). A vision differs from the mission of the organization because the mission is more focused on the specifics of what the organization wants to accomplish. The vision focuses on how the organization will function, accomplish, and is measured. There are ways to promote a healthy and effective vision for an organization by educating the staff, develop a process to involve all staff in creating the vision, and plan a session to gather input about the vision, draft the vision and communicate the vision to the staff. The vision is important to the functionality of the organization because it should be clear and present clear values that help define and describe the organization. The vision should be simple enough for all staff to understand and not to complex that is becomes difficult to communicate the vision of the organization. The vision statement will be accepted by all the staff once it is fully understood the concept of what is being asked in the vision. This paper will address how the vision was used at Mentor Graphics and if it strengthened or weakened the company and how the change affected the organization. Communication between everyone within the organization is needed to ensure that the vision is fulfilled and the organization’s goals are achieved. The visions at Mentor Graphics were designed to make an effective change in which the organization was headed in. The process of change created good intentions for the company but as time passed the vision became more vague and confusing. This
